REPLIES TO A questionnaire distributed among some alumni at the end of the last publication year indicated that they would welcome more news about what the undergraduates are doing and thinking. During the course of the year we hope to do more to meet that wish. In this issue we introduce the new Class of 1953 to Dartmouth men (Page 17) and also present the first installment of The Undergraduate Chair (Page 21) as written by our new undergraduate editor, William J. Mulligan '50 of Pawtucket, R. I.

The full text of President Dickey's Convocation Address begins on Page 19, and a summary of the Treasurer's Report for the fiscal year ended June 30 will be found on page 26.

An unusual hobby which he has pursued for the past ten years has made George L. Phillips '31 the authority on English chimney sweeps, a subject on which he has recently written in a Harvard publication series. An article about him by Prof. John Hurd '21, entitled English Climbing Boys, appears on Page 23.
