THE FORTY-SIXTH annual dinner meeting of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers was held at the Dartmouth Club in New York Friday evening, January 21, under the leadership of Fred Davidson '15, the retiring president. The total attendance of 72 represented the largest meeting on record and it can also be reported as one of the most significant meetings on record. Al Foley D'18, Professor of History at Dartmouth, was the feature speaker and kept his audience in a constant state of interest and attention with his report of the "Hanover Scene" and with his entertaining anecdotes of College and New England life. Dean Kimball also spoke.

A discussion was held on the need for reorganization of the Society. There appeared to be general agreement that a study should be undertaken and a motion was passed directing the Executive Committee to undertake such a study in consultation with the Dean 2nd other members of the Society whose experience might qualify them to be of special assistance in the work. The motion carried with it instructions to present a reorganization plan to the full membership of the Society for letter ballot in order that the new form of organization might be put into effect by the time of the 1950 annual meeting. I am sure that the members of the Executive Committee would welcome any and all suggestions from Society members for their considerations. During discussion, it was suggested that the name Thayer should be incorporated into the name of the Society and that the reorganization should be planned with a view to bringing the younger alumni into more active participation in the direction of Society affairs.
A letter from Charlie Weinberg .'43 describes the interesting work he has in the development of a go-acre tract of land for a cooperative community in Pleasantville, N. Y., to include community buildings and fifty homes together with the necessary roads, water system, etc. Charlie writes, "The cooperative does a great deal of the purchasing and the members contribute some labor over the weekends. Under the plans of the coop, the costs of the homes are to be averaged out and the higher expenses that we are experiencing in the first homes will be cut by the savings on the later ones. The style of architecture is very modern, in the school of Frank Lloyd Wright. All of the architects studied under Wright and he is consulting architect for the project.... In the first buildings we are having to reeducate almost all of our mechanics to different ways of home construction."
