ONE slight change has been made in the plans for the College's 180th Commencement from the procedure of the past few years, according to the program announced last month by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College. Instead of making provisions for the postponement of the exercises because of the weather, Commencement will be held Sunday morning, June 12, at 11 in the Bema, weather permitting, or in Webster Hall in case of bad weather. The definite time, was adopted in the belief that persons attending the exercises would prefer to make travel plans permitting them to leave Hanover early Sunday afternoon. If the indoor facilities are used, the small seating capacity of Webster will limit the number of guests to two for each member of the senior class and members of the faculty will be asked not to attend in order to provide more space for parents and graduates.
Holding reunions during Commencement weekend, June 10-12, are the classes of 1884, 1889, 1894, 1899 and 1924. Friday's program includes Class Day Exercises at 4 p.m. on the campus; a concert by the Dartmouth Band at 7.30 p.m.; class reunion banquets; a reception at the President's House for Seniors, Faculty, Alumni and their Guests at 8.30 p.m.; a Glee Club Concert at 9.30 p.m.; and a Senior and Alumni Dance at 10 p.m.
President Dickey and representatives of the senior and reunion classes will speak at the Alumni-Senior Luncheon and Meeting of the General Association of Alumni Saturday noon. The Saturday afternoon program will include a baseball game with the University of Pennsylvania, the showing of Dartmouth movies at 4 p.m., and Fraternity reunions at 5 p.m. A second concert by the band and a second showing of the Dartmouth movies will be held at 8 p.m., followed by a production by the Dartmouth Players at 9.15. The program ends Sunday morning with Class Memorial Services and Commencement exercises.
With the exception of the Commencement activities and the concerts by the Dartmouth band and glee club, the program will be similar for classes holding reunions on the following weekend, June 17-19. Those classes are 1903, 1904, 1905, 1909, 1928, 1929, 1930, and 1939.
The Tenth Annual Hanover Holiday program will be held Monday through Thursday, June 13 to 16. On the theme of "The Dartmouth Alumnus and His Community," the program will include talks by Arthur O. Davidson, Assistant Professor of Education; Dr. Paul A. Harper '26 of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health; Artemas Packard, Professor of Art; Dayton D. McKean, Professor of Government; George F. Theriault, Assistant Professor of Sociology; Rt. Rev. John T. Dallas, Retired Bishop of the New Hampshire Protestant Episcopal Church; Chauncey N. Allen, Professor of Psychology; and John L. Sullivan '21, Secretary of the Navy.
