On Saturday, April 2, Dartmouth alumni, their families and friends participated in what was undoubtedly the most successfull event in Dayton Dartmouth history. Approximately 65° guests heard Director Paul Zeller lead a Dartmouth Glee Club of 52 voices in brilliant song. The octet in particular caught the fancy of the crowd, and played several encores (their rendition of "Dry Bones" seemed better than Spike Jones') as did Joe Hendrich '50 with a piano solo.
The two-hour concert was followed by a dance for which the alumni helped the hotel crew, in a matter of minutes, transform the Biltmore Ballroom from theater style to a dancing pavilion. The decorations were exceedingly good, being a real Dartmouth green." The crowd seemed to have a wonderful time, and the Glee Clubbers themselves were entertained by 25 lovely young hostesses who were in attendance.
The following alumni attended with either wives or friends:
Bob Austin '52, John Berry '44, Al Beust '38, Major Al Byrne '27, Ed Canby '29, Bob Chollar '35, Ralph Clement '11, Charlie Corwin '36, Bob Corwin '34, Bob Cowden '32, Bill Craig '44, Bob Davidson '39, Mrs. Hal Doty (subbing for sick husband Hal 'lB and missing sons Ed '43 and John '52), Bill Emerson '34, Tom Gillaugh '46, twins Tom and Charlie Hall '33, Chuck Haskell '40, Dr. Tisch Hoerner '26, Horace Huffman Jr. '36, Tom Kennedy '27, Wib Kennedy '27, Warner Kiefaber '39, Jim Kuhns '40, Bob Kuhns '35, Bob Larkin '30, Walker Lewis '36, Ildon Livingston '51, Bob McCloskey '34, Sam McCray '34, Lowell McCutcheon '19, Aubrey Miller '23, Vance Miller '36, Dan Mitchell '37, Dick Morner '43, Gene McCarthy '43, Tony Nanos '40, Tom Patterson '31, Dr. Chas. Richards '36, Oscar Scharrer '13, Bill Seney '31, and Dick Stdwe '27. Those in from out of town were: Bill Portman '45—Cincinnati; Bob "Whitey" Myers '44—Newark, Ohio; Latta McCray '37,—in from N. Y. City to visit brother Sam and their mother; Floyd Pansin '35, Bob Holder '43, Dave Spencer '44, and Tom Wheeler '27 all down from Troy, Ohio; Clarence Mills from Xenia, O.; Charlie English '45 from Urbana, O.; Bill Beasley '51, Dr. Gogle '46 (with a new wife incidentally), Bill Montei '37, and Joe Reinhart '40 all down from Springfield, O.; Ed Atkinson '31 from Columbus; and no doubt others that we missed.
On behalf of Bob Larkin and myself who were co-chairmen, I would like to say that the affair could never have succeeded without the untiring aid of the committee members and practically all our local alumni. I would particularly like to praise and thank Dan Mitchell and wife "Mimi" for the tremendously efficient job they did on tickets, reservations, and numerous other details.
The proceeds of the concert-dance will go into our Dayton Dartmouth Scholarship Fund and we are looking forward to seeing the Glee Club back here again in the not-distant future.
