It being June as this is read, we can look back at winter months without worry about spiraling fuel costs and note that Steve and Helen Mitchell were visiting one of their daughters in San Diego when the Florida class luncheon was in session; that Ken and Mary Godfrey had perfect weather in French St. Martin and Antigua; that Charlie and Helen Clare Macdonald had great beaching at Sanibel, Fla.; that Perk and Arline St. Clair enjoyed their annual triple play Grenada to Barbados to Florida; that Ted Greeley notes that Palm Springs, Calif., has more condos now than desert flowers; that Charlie and Mary Starrett enjoyed a more southerly desert life at Borrego Springs, Calif.; and that Ken Andler's wood-burning stove saw him through the Newport, N.H., winter with no problem.
Bill Hughes enjoyed his 77th with Palmer on a recent visit to Hanover. They had a preview of the Carle Blunt Alumni Center and visited with Tubber and Barbara Weymouth (and found Tubber making a great recovery). Later at dinner at the Inn, Bill was asked to step out on the porch and, to his surprise, heard "Happy Birthday" being played by the Baker Library chimes. A votre santd!
A feature article appeared in the Bellaire, Fla., paper about the 33 years Don Church was manager of the Belleview Biltmore Hotel. The story of his interesting hotel career starting in 1926 made fascinating reading.
The 1980 class birthday card has attempted to place a 1922 dormitory address for each member of the class, and the lack of such has evoked replies from those who transferred to Dartmouth. Howard Tucker of Wichita, Kans., said he entered the class from Washburn College in Topeka, Kans., and Jack Leech of Highland Beach, Fla., graduated with the class, having transferred from Washington and Jefferson College to be at Dartmouth Medical School.
As the 1980 Alumni Fund nears the June 30 finish line, Head Agent A 1 Louer points out our two objectives to meet and exceed our dollar goal and our participation goal. In so doing, 1926 will join in the concerted alumni effort to keep the College financially sound to meet the challenges of these times.
The class birthday card awaited Warren Fellingham's return from a round-the-world cruise on the Rotterdam with P.K. By chance during the voyage, the word "Hanover" was mentioned, and it was discovered that Margaret Haywood (widow of Dick) was a fellow traveler a most delightful one, said Warren. (Art Wilcox, take note that Warren and P.K. are planning on the 55th.)
Lee Powers celebrated his 75th at the home of his sister in Darien, Conn., with son Lee Jr. '67 and wife, who came on from New York. Lee continues to maintain his home in Wellesley, Mass., and is still in his business of appraising damages and surveying dangerous conditions for insurance companies and lawyers.
A "gala black tie" dinner for his 75th birth- day was put on for Ed Dooley by Margaret at their Boca Raton home. About 40 persons were there to congratulate our former U.S. Representative and Boxing Commissioner of New York State. Ed and Margaret also told of being with Dutch and Del Diehl and Snipe and Kay Esquerr6 as luncheon guests of Frank and Helen Knowles.
