Dartmouth's capable golf team started its regular season by dropping a 5-4 decision to a surprisingly strong Babson Institute squad. Coach Tommy Keane's boys then got down to business and whipped Harvard, 6-1, and Middlebury, 6-3, in their next two matches. Bill Tarlow, Henry Exall, Tom McMahon, Bob Hebard, Ed Eichler and Scotty Probasco scored victories over Harvard, while Duke Carey, the team's best player, dropped the only dual contest to the Crimson. In losing, Carey shot a 72, best Dartmouth performance of the day. Against Middlebury, Carey came through with a brilliant 68 to set the pace in the victory over the Panthers. Other singles winners were Exall and Johnny Southworth, while Captain Tarlow and Mike Marchese tied their Middlebury opponents.

The next stop for the golfers was the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association regional playoffs. The Indians had the misfortune to face Brown, the ultimate winner, in the first round. Although the team played some brilliant golf, they lost to the Bruins, 4-3. Carey, Tarlow, Hebard and McMahon dropped close matches while Exall, Probasco and Marchese pulled out the Green triumphs. Despite the loss to Brown, the golfers took second place in the regionals by downing M.1.T., 5-2, and Holy Cross, 7-0, the following day. Carey Tarlow, Exall, McMahon and Southworth defeated their M.I.T. opponents, while the above men plus Marchese and Probasco registered decisions over Holy Cross. The team has entered the New England Golf Championships in Boston and hopes to make up for its narrow elimination from the E.I.G.A. finals by winning the New England crown.
