New Jersey hailed Robert C. Crane '42, 28-year old editor and publisher of the Elizabeth Daily Journal, as the state's "Outstanding Young Man of 1948" this past February. His unusually broad range of in the business and civic fields prompted the award by the State Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Previous to this, he had been selected as the outstanding young man o£ Eastern Union County by a judge's board of citizens from the Elizabeth area. In both county and state, he was honored for his contributions to community welfare, leadership, evidence of personal and business progress and cooperation with individuals and civic organizations.
On March 21, the presidency of the New Jersey Press Association was added to his journalistic record, a high distinction for one still in his twenties. Several years before he had been elected to the vice presidency of this Association.

Microfilm records of the editions from 1813 were given to the Rutgers University School of Journalism and the Elizabeth Public Library.
Energetic Bob Crane serves as a director o£ the Central Home Trust Company, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the Pingry School; a trustee of Union Junior College and a member of the board of managers of St. Elizabeth Hospital. Red Cross and Cancer campaigns have also benefited from his good sense and tireless aid, and he has been president of the New Jersey Electoral College.
