Dartmouth's much-improved tennis team finished its season with a record of five victories and eight defeats. Several of these losses came after the closest kind of matches and the net sport seems to be on the upgrade.
Army's strong team came to Hanover and was beaten by the Green, 6-3, in a real upset. Princeton was too good for the Indian racquet swingers but several of the matches were very closely fought. Dartmouth dropped a 5-4 decision to Pennsylvania after leading 4-2 in the singles competition, and Harvard, too, managed to down the Indians, 5-4, in a very close match. M.I.T. was an easy victim, while Williams, fielding one of the top teams in New England, defeated Dartmouth, 5½
Bert Rodman, southpaw star from Dorchester, Mass., was elected captain for 1950, succeeding Arnie Kramer of Lawrence, N. Y. Rodman lost but two singles matches during the season. Losses by graduation, in addition to Kramer, are Bill Gahagen and Dave Kurr. Returning next year are Rodman, Bill Dey and Jim Myers among the regulars and squad members Pete Irving, Ismar Stahl, Jeff Hart, Paul Sirtlel and Joe Welch.
