Dartmouth's selective process of admissions and recruiting of new students were explained in detail by H. Clifford Bean '16 of Hampton, N. H., former chairman of the Alumni Council Committee on Enrollment and Admissions, at the fall dinner meeting of the Worcester County (Mass.) Dartmouth Club at Worcester October 31.
Club President C. Lane Goss '25 presided. Fifty alumni and guests attended. Club Secretary Samuel H. Snow '40, Treasurer Harry C. Midgley Jr. '40 and former Secretary Donald G. Mix '21 were in charge. Mr. Bean stated applications had dropped from a peak of 6,200 to 3,300 for this year's freshman class, and that more than 100 Dartmouth fathers are disappointed yearly when their sons are not admitted. He paid tribute to the more than 400 alumni interviewing committees composed of more than 1,300 men who served all over the country.
