With Bob Krieger in charge of arrangements, the annual holiday smoker at the Town and Country Club at St. Paul on December 30, turned out to be one of the nicest events on the calendar. More than 150 alumni and friends braved adverse weather to shake hands, view movies of the College, and toast the holiday season. It is especially gratifying to notice that an increasing number of out-of-towners are attending these functions.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING—The December meeting of the Executive Committee was held at the home of President Cap Whitney on December 8. Those present were: Cap Whitney, Bob Stone, John Faegre, Wood Foster, Phil Troy, Clark MacGregor, Bobb Chaney, Sherm Pinkham, John Kelley, Steve Osborn, Earl Seldon, Bob Krieger, and Stuart MacPhail.
HANOVER HOLIDAY IN THE TWIN CITIES— Saturday, April l, was agreed upon as the date for the 1950 Hanover Holiday in the Twin Cities. President Whitney has appointed Whit Miller to be Chairman of arrangements for this event. The following have been appointed to assist him: BobFaegre, Vincent Else, George Haxukins, JuddMulally, and Stuart MacPhail. Remember that date, Saturday, April 1, 1950. SCHOLARSHIP FUND—John Faegre reports on the James A. Vaughan Northwest Area Memorial Fund. To date, 67 alumni are participating on an annual basis, having agreed to be billed a total of $466.00 annually. John is campaigning vigorously in order to raise the total annual subscription to $1000. During the past year loans from the Fund were made to the extent of $800 entirely to Minnesota students. The total balance of the Fund is $7,833.00. DULUTH—The Executive Committee has accepted the resignation of Dudley Russell, Assistant Secretary for the Duluth alumni group. George R. Stevenson Jr., Vice-President of the Piggly Wiggly Northwest Inc., Duluth, was appointed to succeed him. We are glad to have you in this job, George, and we are looking for continued enthusiasm from the Duluth area.
INTERVIEWING COMMITTEE—John Kelley reports that eleven applications are in for the class of 1954. Steve Osborn re-appointed the 1948-49 Interviewing Committee to serve in the same capacity for the year 1949-50 provided they are willing to accept. GOLF TOURNAMENT—The members of the Executive Committee expressed considerable enthusiasm for a Golf Tournament to be held at the Minikahda Club in the latter part of May. Sherm Pinkham was appointed chairman of the committee to draw up tentative plans.
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT AND JOB PLACEMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATES—PhiI Troy has mentioned that he would be interested in hearing from undergraduates who want summer work in department store merchandising. DETROIT POW-WOW—AS you undoubtedly know, the Big Green journeys to Ann Arbor next year for a game with Michigan on the first Saturday in October. The Detroit alumni are planning an extensive program including a meeting Friday night (with a theater party or some other entertainment for the ladies), transportation tQ and from the game and a dinner dance for Saturday night. Bob White '47, who may be reached at Paine Webber's Minneapolis office, has been appointed as our representative to work with the Detroit alumni regarding travel arrangements, reservations, etc.
Last but not least, another year has rolled around and we are already several months late in getting to you a dues notice for 1949- 50. Lyman Wakefield's treasury has hit a new low and we urge you to remit your dues to him promptly. For graduates in the classes of 1945 through 1949, the dues are $1.00; for earlier classes, 53.00.
