You probably have many times experienced the next to the last day of vacation, as I am doing today. It is clear and cold, and as I look over my summer's collection of news and notes, the striking thing to me is that $13,961.08 with 121% of the objective, and 103% in participation. Congratulations to George Young and his assistant agents who have done a perfectly marvelous job. It warms one's heart on this cold September morn.
Col. Carroll A. Edson, Commandant of the Syracuse Army Reserve Corps School, is running a full time program. He is manager of the Social Security office at Syracuse, is now heading up the school which started in September, does a good deal of church work and devotes considerable time to the Atlantic Union program, which he considers is of outstanding importance, in that it holds the key to the solution of the Communist problem. In addition to all of this, his spare time is used in collecting data for an eventual Edson genealogy.
On April 22, Bill Roland became a grandfather when his son William introduced him to Alice Roland, born in St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She was named for Bill's late wife.

Chick Grant took a two months' trip to the coast this summer to visit one of his youngsters and family. ... Snatch Wilkinson spent considerable time in England and France... . PenAborn writes that he recently welcomed home AI Keeler, Vice-President of the Harvard Trust Co. "He greeted me with the remark that he had enjoyed cocktails in England with one Gov. Foss whom he met at the home of one of his friends." Gov. is resident manager for E. B. Badger Co., Isle Grain, Kent, England, and is engaged in the construction of a plant for the Anglo-Iranian Oil Co.... Herb and DotAustin have recently attended the annual con- vention of the National Editorial Association in Alaska. Herb is the current president of the Massachusetts Press Association.... A nice letter was received from Charlie Crandall last spring from his home in Westfield, N. J. Charlie has been in medical publishing, now, for 20 years. His youngsters are married and there are three grand-children. Charles Cran- dall Jr. graduated from Annapolis in '43 and is at White Sands Proving Ground. Frances Lewis, "graduated from Mt. Way back last March, Paul Howe wrote one of his frequent and interesting letters. He had just been presented with his fifth granddaughter by Lyman and Louise. He had recently met Carl Buck at Ann Arbor. He brought up one of his snapshot albums with the reunion pictures, and he got quite a kick out of them. Carl is doing a lot of travelling in connection with his work in public health in the University of Michigan. String writes that Ann Arbor put him on a diet last December and he had lost 30 pounds in three months. "Anyone mentioning lettuce, cabbage and other rabbit food in my presence after that diet will perhaps be surprised with a sock in the nose."
Does anyone know the whereabouts of Luther Asa Pattee? His mail has been returned from Box 62, Hanover, Mass. Anyone having any information should communicate with the Alumni Records Office or with me.
From an undisclosed source, a page of the Nichols Junior College publication recently arrived at this office, containing a reproduction of a classroom photograph. About eight students were listening raptly to Dean Leech in his course on Marketing. Evidently the course is keeping up with the times, as the only two figures on the blackboard were $3.00 and $3.95, which, I presume, merely indicates the rising cost of living.
When Gordon Piatt sent in his check, it was enclosed in a letterhead of the Northern Farm Co-operative at Montpelier. Could it be that he is employed by them? It would be nice to have a letter from Gordon with a report of his activities.
