On September 30, at Our Lady o£ Help of Christian's Church in Newtonville, Mass., Muriel Elizabeth Furfey was married to John Barrett Wolff. Muriel is the daughter of Edith and John Furfey, is a graduate of Regis College in Weston, Mass., and had been a stewardess with the United Air Lines. The groom is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. The young couple will make their home in Chicago. John Furfey Jr. '44 was unable to be present at the wedding because he was in Germany.

Congratulations and best wishes—sincere if belated—to Lou Wallis. Thanks to Dave Austin '04, too, who, we assume, was responsible for the "scoop" which gave us the news of Lou's marriage.

Ira A. Newick died suddenly at the Warwick Club in Portsmouth, N. H., of a heart attack on October 9. Harry Peyser sends word that, at the time of the attack, Ira had been waiting for another of their mutual friends as he had had a date for a game of pool. Harry and Ira were both members of this club. An obituary notice will be found in another column. The deep sympathy of the class goes out to Mrs. Newick and their daughter Elizabeth.

The '06 pre-Harvard game dinner in Boston was, by all accounts, a pleasant affair. Ten '05 men availed themselves of the kind invitation of '06 to join the party and brought also a son, Dr. Joe Clough '31 and a nephew, Irvin Besse '34. Present from '05: Besse, RogerBrown, Clough, Donnelly, Elsie Grover, Harding, Hatch, Loder, Parkinson, Reid, White. At a party of their own at the Hotel Statler were the following wives: Mmes. Brown, Clough, Grover, Hatch, Parkinson, Reid, White. Your scribe is very sorry that he had to miss not only this dinner but the game the next day!

Tub Besse writes that Bill Knibbs and he drove to Hanover in Bill's "snappy convertible" to see the Fordham game. They had dinner with C. C. Hills and apparently had a grand "talk fest." On this trip they also saw Norm Stevenson and Matt Bullock '04 and Rainey and Swasey '06. Among the matters discussed at dinner was the interim reunion for which they are enthusiastic. C.C. has written me suggesting that we have our reunion on the second weekend following commencement, since then we could get ample accommodations at the Hanover Inn and have the town to ourselves. C.C. or I would appreciate comments on this idea by the men of '05.

Earlier this fall, Mildred and I had a delightful visit with Ethel and Walter Conley at their charming farm. Walt had recently seen Ed Gilbert and found him very busy with the work of his laboratory. More recent word from Walt tells of meeting Betty Chamberlin (Mrs. Lafayette) at the Skytop in the Poconos. She was looking fine and "oscillates" between Cape Cod, Florida and points west.

Ned Estes has been in Hanover attending a meeting of the American Guild of Organists. There he visited Dr. & Mrs. Watson '02, formerly Dean of Roberts College, Istanbul, where Ned spent so many years on the faculty. Ned, as organist and choir master in Berwick, Me., is called "Minister of Music." He was to give a recital November 4 under the sponsorship of the Guild.

Fred Chase was in Hanover in mid-October to represent the class as chairman of bequests. Other visitors registered at the Inn during the fall included Frank McCabe and Walter Emery, also Dr. and Mrs. Charles Goodrich.

From Walter Nourse I learn that, in collaboration with another retired educator, he is conducting a course for island teachers on Martha's Vineyard. It is called "Utilization of Community Resources" and gives credit toward a Master's degree at Boston University. So do we retire!

Fred Chase hopes everyone will read the article in the November ALUMNI MAGAZINE entitled "More Bone and Sinew for a Growing College." It sets forth very clearly the objectives and plans of the Bequest Committee, and points out that there is to be no pressure campaign, nor any competition with the Alumni Fund. The Committee will upon request help any alumnus to arrange his affairs so as to bring about the greatest possible benefit to himself, his dependents and the College.

A clipping from the Wenatchee DailyWorld quotes a letter written to Vertiey W.Russell by the district manager of the Bureau of Reclamation. It says in part, "The Secretary of the Interior has awarded you the department's honor award for meritorious service in recognition of your contribution to the development of the West." Congratulations, Verney, on this well-deserved honor. Verney keeps busy travelling, working on his place and helping build the Methodist Church.

Note the date of December 14. '05 joins with '06 for our annual New York dinner at the Dartmouth Club. Let's have a big turn-out for this pleasant affair under the auspices of our own Stanley Besse and Ed Redman 06.
