The annual winter reunion of our Class took place February 25 at the Clearwater Beach Hotel. This spot on the Gulf coast of Florida is regularly selected because Clearwater Beach is the winter home of several of the Class and it is central to other towns of the vicinity frequented by some of our classmates. Those who were present to enjoy this pleasant gathering were: John and Lucy Bell, Roger and Jane Brown, Fred Chase and daughter Edith Sayres, Charlie and Ruth Goodrich, C. C. Hills, Huston and Ethel Lillard, Leon and Amy Smith, Dick and Mabel Tolman. It goes without saying that your secretary would have been happy to have been able to join this group with Mildred.
It is inevitable that the word nostalgic occurs frequently in these notes, for it conveys something of the wistful yearning for the happy days of yore. If any of you wish to have nostalgic memories pleasantly revived, I recommend the reading of two recent books, Dartmouth publications, the one, "The College on the Hill," a Dartmouth Chronicle; the other, especially stirring for us of 1905, "Dr. Tucker's Dartmouth." Both beautifully printed and most interestingly written, they offer absorbing and rewarding reading...
Did you notice the clever acrostic in verse with which S. B. Cunningham signed his most recent 1905 Reporter? Why not drop S.B. a line and let him know how much you enjoy his Newsletters?
Long overdue, Gene Musgrove's poem, a pleasant little gem written in honor of our 60th reunion, is to appear in print. Somehow heretofore it has been crowded out by news items each month. These lines of Gene's were read with appreciation at our reunion last June.
HAIL DARTMOUTH
All hail, dear Dartmouth, tried and true, Forever old, forever new! We meet today, by love divine, To place a wreath before thy shrine.
With friendly teachers, widely read, By saintly Dr. Tucker led, We found the ways to wondrous truth, Fit recompense for questing youth.
And beauty too we learned to love, The hills around, the stars above, And often, in the leading role. The rainbow of a brother's soul.
But that was many years ago; Our heads are bowed, our feet are slow. But memories and faith remain Farewell, dear friends, we'll meet again.
