This being the Alumni Fund Issue, with limited space for news, a greater part of what '19ers did during the early fall season appeared in the November Smoke Signal.

Stan Mauk, reporting of his trip abroad this past summer, states that "we had a grand evening in Rome with our classmate JohnnyFornacca. He is doing a fine job with the American Express Company and all we had to do in Italy to get anything we wanted, was to mention his name." Stan and Alice's son Bob was married during the summer to Miss Joan Eaton (niece of Chuck Eaton) and daughter of Mrs. Henry Boardman Eaton 2nd, in the First Congregational Church in Calais, Maine.

Another recent marriage of a class son was that of Max Huntoon Jr., son of Max andMrs. Huntoon of Providence and Little Compton, R.I., to Miss Ann Saterlee Dear, daughter of Mrs. Brock McGeorge Dear of Washington, Conn., and Bronxville, N. Y., and the late Dr. Dear.

Quoting the Springfield (Mass.) Union on a prominent member of the class:

"The last of the guest preachers in Trinity's annual summer preaching program, Rev. Frederick W.Smith, of Baltimore, Md., will preach this Sunday in Trinity's pulpit. He is the executive secretary of the Temperance League of Maryland and Delaware. He was born in Yorkshire, England, five miles from Wuthering Heights. During World War I he served with the Royal Highlanders of Canada, known as the 'Black Watch' and the 'Ladies from Hell.'

"After receiving degrees from Dartmouth, Boston University and Yale, he served parishes for a time in the New England Conference. For 19 years he was Superintendent of the Christian Civic League of Maine. He is a lecturer at the well known Yale summer school of Alcoholic Studies. Mr. Smith is a colorful, convincing champion of the gospel of temperance and possesses a wit of a kind that makes him a popular speaker in college campuses and before youth groups."

Truly a fine compliment to Fred, who is a leader in his most important work.

Hal and Ethel Parsons report joining the grandparents' group with the birth of Ann Behning Snyder, daughter of daughter Joan (Mrs. Sidney P. Snyder).

From Little Rock, Ark., comes a note from Owen (Shorty) Lyon stating that his only son, who has been on the Korean coast in the Navy since last fall, may enter the Officer's Candidate School at Newport, R.I. He is a Princeton graduate, class of 1950.

One of our busier classmates, Dr. CharlesL.(Henry) Clay, first assistant director of the great Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, finds time to drop the sec. a note of appreciation for the Class birthday greetings and stating that he enjoys the newsletters,. Also, quoting—"Best regards, and if you take sick or get hurt around Boston, murmur as loudly as you can 'Mass. General.' " Too bad you couldn't make Woodstock, Henry, Docs White, Featherston and Murray sure had fun.

Portland, Me.'s Larry Eastman, of the National Life Insurance Co., notes that he "had hoped to get up to the October 19-21 Woodstock-Syracuse game shindig but we are 'winterizing' the farm, and that is taking all the spare bucks. I can imagine enjoying other ways—and much more too. You'll understand if you have ever renovated a 150-year-old house—lt's terrific!! Our 24-year-old Peter (a Bowdoin Grad) is now off at O. C. S. at Newport, R.I., and hoping to come out with a nice shiny brass stripe."

Early fall visitors at the Hanover Inn included Russ and Marjorie Potter from Woodbridge, Conn., Norm and Elisabeth Sterlingfrom Ponte Vedra, Fla., Bill and Doris Cunningham of Newtonville, Mass., Harry Colwell of New Rochelle, N. Y., and Alan andMrs. Jones of Fort Atkinson, Wis.

Christmas greetings to all of you, and muchhappiness and prosperity.
