Brooks Palmer was the James Arthur Lecturer on "Time and Its Mysteries" sponsored by the James Arthur Foundation at New York University the evening of October 17. His title was "The Early American Clockmaking Industry." As prexy of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and author of a definitive reference book, Book of AmericanClocks, Brooks is known both as a collector and historian. Following his lecture the public was invited to attend the Collection of Timepieces presented to New York University in 1926 by the late James Arthur. The collection consists of more than 1800 timepieces, beginning with the simplest sun dial to clocks having multiple dials and highly complicated mechanisms. Among other lecturers besides Brooks who have been sponsored by the Foundation are Robert A. Millikan, California Institute of Technology; Harlow Shapley, Harvard; James H. Breasted, University of Chicago; John Dewey, Columbia; and James T. Shotwell, Columbia.

For a couple of years your correspondent has been on the receiving end of numerous suggestions that the Class put on a winter Rump Reunion, up in Hanover, in addition to the summer edition which has become a fixture in the list of '23 activities. It seems that another class has operated such an event for some time, with conspicuous success. We have asked Ivan Martin to take hold of this proposition and develop plans. Doubtless he will be in touch with the editor of the peerless SKIDDOO, who has now recovered from his latest cutting, and the two of them will supply you all with the dope in editions of Flanigan's sheet to be forthcoming in the near future. Sounds good to us, and we urge an enthusiastic response to their plans.

As all of you know, from literature which has been emanating from Hanover on the subject for some months, the Dartmouth Development Council has come up with wellconsidered and well-rounded policies re the financial development of the College. Your correspondent has written numerous letters to various people who have been active in formulating these policies and who will be active in carrying them out, and has accumulated quite a file of correspondence having to do with the new policies affecting the Alumni Fund, the Memorial Fund, bequests, capital gifts, etc. It has been my intention to keep well informed, so that '23 would not err in taking action contrary to College policy. In particular, I have wanted to know what the College's viewpoint is concerning any Memorial Fund activity we might have in mind. Now, to give the Class the lowdown on these matters, as this info, appears in correspondence between myself and Mr. H. R. Lane, Chairman, Dartmouth Development Council, I have despatched this correspondence to the Irishman with the request that his peerless publication reproduce the exchange of letters in an early issue. I think you will want to digest this material, and commend it to you for careful reading.

Ted Swartzbaugh delivered himself of some remarks not long ago to an Inquiring Reporter in the employ of a large Chicago paper. The question he was asked was: "If you were choosing Miss America, what type of beauty would you favor?" Here is Ted's reply: "Believe me, the one I choose won't be wearing falsies. I want a natural beauty—one with her own teeth, and not loaded down with makeup. I see no reason why she should be 6 feet tall, either. I like 'em normal height."
