By the time this sees the light of day, the current football season will have wound up with a much more favorable outcome than anyone anticipated when the fall came around. As of this writing, the amazing comebacks in the second half against Harvard and in the slop of the Gloomy Bowl have assured the team of at least four wins.

Being a very unlucky character, your secretary took the option this fall of attending the slippery, miserable affair in the Bowl rather than the more pleasant occasion in Allston. As a consequence of climatic conditions, there is little to report about class activities in New Haven, there having been none. Aside from passing the time of day with two welldrenched 1938's and observing the effects of the deluge on the crowd in general, the trip was wasted as far as news is concerned.

At the pre-game festivities before the Harvard Game, held conjointly this year with 1936 and 1937, a good turn-out of 19,38 was obtained and great enthusiasm engendered for the project. According to Messers MacNutt and Ganter, the following were more or less present: Jim and Betty Miller, Lt. Donand Jerry Badger, Rog and Barb Buffinton,Stearns and Barb MacNutt, Charley and LeeMann, Fran and Bev Reilly, George and LeePorter, Bill and Rita Wischmann, Bob andMary Ross, Phil and Ginny Leach, Jack andKix Russell, Dick and Ruth Anderson, FrankBrett, Charley Hitchcock, Bill Ganter. Much credit goes to the Boston group for inaugurating this idea and carrying it through to a successful conclusion.

Although he won't write me, my agents have uncovered at last some dope about Tom Boy any— he was recently promoted by Mohawk Carpet (Amsterdam, N. Y.) to be director of industrial relations for the firm. Much more communicative is Sandy Mills of Cleveland, 0., who replied to a questionnaire which should probably have gone to Lyle but was intercepted by me. Sandy is in the Accounting Department of the Mills Co., dealing in metal partitions and is the father of three children, Dolly, Charlton and Whitney.

Along the local front, Ted Hunter recently underwent surgery for a back condition which had been bothering him most of the summer; he's now well on the road to recovery and back to his architecture work and teaching at Dartmouth. Sarge Conner appeared for the Syracuse Game, muchly grey in the head but apparently in good shape otherwise, except for being in the company of one Tesreau. Dick Sherivin comes through frequently and drops into the office. Seen on Main Street the other day too briefly to make much news was Fred Wagner, Business Executive of Milwaukee and still country gentlemen of New Hampshire by virtue of owning his farm north of Hanover.

Of some concern to this corner is word that the treasurer is backing a candidate in the Indianapolis Elections; since we have no very real records of class funds, we must just trust either that McMurtrie has not tossed the resources of 1938 into the campaign or that he has and wins.

In the last appearance of this particular column, I hinted that Bill Lansberg was to be in Hanover working in Baker Library. Direct confirmation and more information is now available from the College. After graduating from Dartmouth, he took his M.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina, serving at the same time for two years on the staff of the University Library. He then taught French from 1942-1948 at the University of North Carolina, S. W. Missouri State College and Boston University. In 1949 he was graduated from Simmons Col- lege School of Library Science. Since that time he has been employed by H. W. Wilson Cos. of New York, publishers of bibliographies and other library tools. His duties at Dart- mouth, besides the usual library chores, will consist of studying administrative and opera- tional questions in several of the departments of the Library. Bill and his wife will live in Sachem Village.

Elliott D. Herrick is an Accounting Machine Salesman for Underwood Corporation and lives in Hempstead, L.I., at the moment. Franklin Martin is in the Department of Pathology at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. Jim Miller is with the Modern Hygiene Corp. in Boston, but lives in Needham.

Again by the time this reaches the general public's eye, it will be that happy season when we shall forget for the moment the new Income Tax, remember with sorrow the New Excise Taxes, and foregather for the customary means of forgetting troubles and enjoying Christmas. Please accept the best wishes for the season from the Secretary, his Wife and Child, and may all members of the class enjoy a prosperous New Year uninhibited by any new problems either local or world or by any further complication of the present ones.
