ANOTHER bit of Dartmouth news in January was the announcement that the College had received a total of $775,032 in gifts and bequests from alumni and friends in the previous six months. These figures, reported by John F. Meek '33, Treasurer of the College, at the winter meeting of the Board of Trustees, covered the period from July 1, 1950, to January 12, 1951.

Included in the total was $548,089 received by Dartmouth in direct gifts and bequests, $97,954 contributed by Dartmouth alumni to their Class Memorial Funds, $78,413 given towards the Hopkins War Memorial Center, and $50,576 received as early contributions to the 1951 Alumni Fund.

The six-month figure reported by Mr. Meek was greatly boosted by the gift of 1258,687 from John D. Rockefeller Jr. for permanent endowment of the Ernest Martin Hopkins Scholarships. Also received by the College during this period was $26,254 from Enders M. Voorhees '14 of New York for the endowment of the Margaret McClumpha Voorhees Scholarship Fund, additional income amounting to $23,287 from the C. B. Little Trust Fund, and a $20,000 scholarship fund established by Miss Ethel Clark Ramlet of Manchester, N. H., in memory of David J. Clark of the Class of 1836.

In its continuing efforts to raise capital funds for the College, the Dartmouth Development Council is still placing major emphasis on the need for greater resources to provide scholarship aid for worthy boys who want to come to Dartmouth but cannot pay their full way.
