PROBABLY the most inspected spot on the Dartmouth campus this past month or two has been the basement of Reed Hall, where the Navy has installed an intriguing layout of electronic gear that enables midshipmen of the NROTC Unit to engage in anti-submarine warfare with a reality that stops short only of the rolling of the destroyer, the smell of salt air and the sound of depth charges exploding under water. A description of this bone-dry sea battle has been written by Prof. John Hurd '21, associate editor of the MAGAZINE, and will be found on Page 12 under the title Sightedand Sunk.
An undergraduate with a penchant for digging into Dartmouth history is Edward C. Lathem '51, who has written several articles for us in the past. This month we are favored with another bit of his research, entitled TheStudent Days of Richard Hovey, which begins on Page 17.
