The 87th Annual Dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston was held March 7 at the Copley Plaza Hotel. F. William Andres '29 presided. Over 600 alumni were in attendance. The Alumni Orchestra, under the direction of Bill Perry '22, provided music during the evening. The new cup for the largest class attendance was won by the Class of '23. The invocation was given by Rev. Richard S. Knight '41 of The Cathedral Church of St. Paul. Speakers were William T. Vesprini '52, next year's football captain, Dr. James B. Conant, President of Harvard University, President Dickey and John L. Sullivan '21, President of the Dartmouth Alumni Council.

President Conant stated, "I believe global war is not imminent and not inevitable. We have a good chance of avoiding it... and I think the American people will have to back General Eisenhower in his most difficult task of developing a wall of peace in Europe. Congress ought to be ready to back him with as many troops as he needs."

President Dickey estimated an enrollment loss of between 20 and 30 per cent at Dartmouth next year and predicted colleges "for some years .. . are going to be short on both dollars and students." He referred to the

"tragic irony that this should be both the first year of a normal student body in ten years, and at the same time the first year of mobilization for a fresh crisis of utterly unmeasurable depth and duration."
