The 88th annual dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston was held February 26, at the Statler Hotel.President Roscoe Elliott '20 presided. Nearly 500 enthusiastic alumni of Greater Boston were in attendance. Music for the occasion was provided and directed by Bill Perry '22. The meeting was opened with the invocation by the Rev. Donald B. Fitzsimmons '46, assistant minister of the Congregational Church of Attleboro. After a pleasant dinner Rock Elliott opened the business meeting by returning to the Class of '23, represented by Joe Fay, the cup won last year for having the largest number in attendance at the dinner.

There then followed the nomination and election of officers for the ensuing year, as follows:

President, Robert M. Edgar '28; Vice Presidents, Alex J. McFarland '30, Haskell Cohn '22; GeorgeB. Redding '29; Secretary, Gordon K. Went worth '40; Assistant Secretary, John Williamson '42; Treasurer, Dick Hill '41; Chorister, Harry S. McDevitt '07. Executive Committee: Wendell_ L.Schuh '29, Malcolm F. McLean '32, Allan L. Priddy '42, Robert S. Fox '33, Addison L. Winship '42, Robert A. Grady '46, Robert Y. Kimball '46, BobbM. Slattery '49, and Robert D. Kilmarx '5O. Chairman of the Nominating Committee for 1953: Roscoe O. Elliott '20.

There being no dissensions from the floor, the slate as presented by Cliff Bean '16 in the absence of the chairman of the Nominating Committee, Bill Andres '29, was snowballed through.

The Association was then informed that District 1 had one opening for Alumni Council and that a nomination was in order, following which Charles W. Bartlett '27 of Boston was voted to be nominated by our Association.

Pete Reich '53, captain-elect of the football team, gave us a little insight into the effect of the elimination of spring practice, calling it "an over-emphasis of de-emphasis." He prophesied that, nevertheless, there would be a good and scrappy team on the field next fall.

Bill Cunningham '19 ably introduced the guest speaker, Myles J. Lane '28, U. S. Attorney for the southern district of New York, and pointed out for us a few of the personal highlights of Myles' career which had been unknown to most of us. The talk by Myles which disclosed some of the cancerous conditions which prevail in the country and which it has been his duty to try and contain was extremely interesting. It was. concluded with a strong plea to the alumni as representative of the business ability in the country to assume greater responsibility in its educational, spiritual, and political development.

President Dickey happily announced that his prediction of a year ago that the student body might be forced to be reduced by 20% to 3°% was and that enrollment still is at full strength. He pointed out that this was made possible by the foresightedness of those who realize that the education of the youth of the country in liberal arts colleges is vital for the development of the country, and had plated the College in a position to offer ROTC facilities for all the Services. His speech was concluded with a happy note indicating that the purposes of the College and the responsibility and resourcefulness of the undergraduate body are, in his opinion, fully apparent.

In addition to the speakers and officers of the Association, there were at the head table, Robert T. Woodman '32, North Shore Club; Thomas F. Parker '36, South Shore Club; Lloyd D. Brace '25, Trustee of the College; John R. McLane '07, Life Trustee of the College; John F. Meek '33, Treasurer of the College; Wesley H. Beattie '33, Melrose Club; Robert S. Fox '33, Charles River Club.

One of the highlights from the Association's point of view was the presentation by Rock Elliott of a $1000 check to President Dickey to be added to the Greater Boston scholarship fund.
