A gold medal award for outstanding work in national highway development was recently presented to Byron W. Matteson '03, division engineer for the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads, Department of Commerce, in Denver.
One of twenty citations made throughout the United States, the medal represents 31 years of achievement and leadership in highway construction in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Many of the roads built under Mr. Matteson's direction run through the famous western parks: Yellowstone, Zion, Boyce, Big Bend, Mesa Verde, and others.
Mr. Matteson is past president of the Utah and Colorado sections of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Colorado Society of Engineers. He is now vice president of the Colorado Dartmouth Club.
