An exceptionally large group of alumni club officers and their wives gathered in Hanover November 12 and 13 for the annual meeting of the Dartmouth Club Officers Association. About 100 men and 90 women arrived on Friday and stayed for a chilly weekend to give and hear reports on the College and club activities, to honor individual clubs and officers for outstanding accomplishments, and to rejoice in the Big Green's gridiron victory over highly touted Cornell.
The men and their wives started the weekend program with a Friday afternoon meeting at Spaulding Auditorium. Dennis A. Dinan '61, Director of Alumni College and Alumni Seminars, spoke on "One-Day vs. Three-Day Seminars: A New Approach"; Harland W. Hoisington Jr. '48, Director of Off-Campus Study and Job Placement, and Thomas J. Swartz Jr. '49, chairman of the Alumni Council Committee on Regional Organization, discussed "Alumni Assistance for Student Employment." A new film on "Athletics at Dartmouth" was shown.
After a reception and dinner in Alumni Hall, Association President Paul H. Mannes '55 presided over the annual awards program. William G. Mazeine '61 of the Springfield Club was named Club President of the Year. Kenneth H. Thomas '21 of the Central Florida Club, winner of the Secretary-of-the-Year award, was unable to be present to receive his award in person. Three clubs were recognized for their accomplishments in programming and special activities and the active participation of their membership. The Dartmouth Club of Georgia was named Small Club of the Year, the Dartmouth Club of Southern California Large Club of the Year. The Dartmouth Club of Eastern New York received a special award for a club "neither large nor small, but which over the years has built a solid year-round operation for its membership and backed that program with effective communication."
After a brief adjournment for the Houseparties Weekend rally and bonfire on the Green, Hans H. Penner, Associate Professor of Religion and chairman of the Committee on Educational Planning, spoke to the reassembled group.
At an early breakfast Saturday,, Edward T. Chamberlain Jr. '36, Director of Admissions, spoke on "The Admissions Department and the Enrollment of Women —If? The Association's business meeting and election of officers followed. The group then separated: the men to take part in workshops on Admissions, Glee Club, Urban and City Clubs, and Small and Rural Clubs, and their wives to take a bus tour of the College and the Hanover area.
President Kemeny was the speaker and J. Michael McGean, Secretary of the College, presided at an 11 o'clock meeting in Spaulding Auditorium, which was open to all alumni. A buffet luncheon in Alumni Hall preceded the football game.
The club officers and their wives were received by President and Mrs. Kemeny after the game. A cocktail party at the Hanover Inn and an informal dinner at Alumni Hall, where the Injunaires entertained and William H. Schlesinger '72, president of the Outing Club, spoke, closed the official activities of the weekend.
Association officers for 1971-72, elected at Saturday morning's business meeting, are Peter C. Schwartz '60, Hartford, Conn., president; Kenneth W. Lundstrom '55, Delaware, vice president; David S. Orr '57, Hanover, secretary; Miss Nancy Elliott, Hanover, assistant secretary. Elected to the Executive Committee were Kester R. Pierson '53, Princeton; Richard J. Loewen- thal Jr. '53, Chicago; John B. Nason III '59, Philadelphia; Robert Adnopoz '54, New Haven; and Donald H. Spitzli Jr. '56, Tidewater.
