The sleeping giant awakes... the living Spirit of Dartmouth Men is actively afoot in Wisconsin, though hindered a little by not quite as active bodies. With the declared intention of selling Dartmouth College to this Big Ten area, this Alumni Association under new leadership locally and with the help of Sid Hayward, President Dickey and others in Hanover, has set up a positive program of action.

Last November, Bill Kieckhefer '40 and TedFajen '4.6 (incidentally they are brothers-inlaw and seem to like it) headed up an enrollment committee, personally visiting nearby prep and high school seniors and selling the Dartmouth idea. Credited with an "assist" were Bill Trump '46, Tom Trump '41, SteveStotzer '36 and Cliff Randall '27. Early in December, an evening "Doughnut and Cider" party was given in the University Club library and was well attended by prospective applicants, their parents and faculty members interested in learning more about the College. The cider was cause for nostalgia, even though most alumni present agreed it needed two more months on a dormitory windowsill.

On Wednesday of Christmas week the annual Undergraduate Luncheon took place at the Town Club, attended by many hardy souls who braved the weather and large, brown hangovers from sundry parties the previous night.

The highlight of the season was, of course, President Dickey's visit to Milwaukee on January 31, the first in many years. Off to an inauspicious start (the official greeting committee unaware of the President's change in arrival time had lunch sans his presence, munching good hamburger and telling bad jokes), his visit was a huge success, with the Prexy winning many new friends among the alumni, their wives and guests, including assorted parents of this year's freshmen, who understandably desired translation by the President of their sons' letters home.

This being the annual banquet meeting, new officers were elected. Chosen president for 1951_52> succeeding Hank Orth, was RobinsonBosworth '37; vice-president, Stevens S. Stotzer '36; treasurer, Gary Hayssen '42; and yours truly as secretary.

One and all hereabouts were afraid that local news sheets would report on President Dickey's visit with banner headlines, "DARTMOUTH PRESIDENT NEARLY GETS PLASTERED AT BANQUET," due to the fact that a three-foot chunk of plaster fell from the ceiling of the University Club, missing the Prexy by a matter of only a few feet. But unfortunately the reporter arrived late and a scoop was lost to Harvard's publicity department.

Climaxing the most active season the local alumni have seen in years, thanks to the leadership and imagination of Hank Orth and Bob Bosworth, the Glee Club gave a concert at a party at the Astor Hotel in Milwaukee on April 9. The Glee Club's visit was complete with television appearances under the inspired direction of Jules Wachs '40 and Jeff Maclay '45. This was the biggest Dartmouth party since the last time the Glee Club played this city in 1938.
