Justin A. Stanley '33 Heads Alumni Council for 1951-52

JUSTIN A. STANLEY '33, Chicago attorney, was elected president of the Dartmouth Alumni Council at the annual June meeting in Hanover on the weekend of June 21-23. He succeeds John L. Sullivan '21 of Washington, D. C., and Manchester, N. H., former Secretary of the Navy, who presided over the Council sessions held in conjunction with the second weekend of alumni reunions.

John C. Woodhouse '21 of Wilmington, Del., was chosen vice president of the Council and Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, was reelected secretary. Elected members-at-large, to serve for three years to June 30, 1954, were Kenneth M. Henderson 'l6 of Chicago, president of Ditto, Inc., and Francis Brown '25 of New York City, editor of The NewYork Times Book Review. To serve as an alumni member of the Dartmouth College Athletic Council for a three-year term the Council named Sumner D. Kilmarx '22 of New York City.

The Alumni Council's executive committee for 1951-52 will include Mr. Stanley, Mr. Woodhouse, Mr. Hayward, Nichol M. Sandoe 'l9 of New York City and Raymond M. Barker '23 of Cleveland.

New Fund Chairman

Mr. Henderson, who served as chairman of the budget committee of the Chicago Community Chest last fall, was elected by the Council to head the important Alumni Fund Committee for 1951-52. In this post he succeeds Charles J. Zimmerman '23 of Hartford, Conn., who directed this year's record-breaking Alumni Fund campaign.

To serve as chairmen of other committees of the Council, the following were named: Admissions and Schools, John C. Heston '28, Philadelphia; Alumni Club Activities, Scott A. William Andres '29, Boston; Class Organization, Addison L. Winship II '42, Boston; Parents, Stephen A. Osborn '27, St. Paul; Vocational, John M. Cunningham '18, Denver; Nominating, Nathan K. Parker '26, Pittsburgh.

Following preliminary committee meetings on Thursday afternoon, June 21, and then a reception and informal dinner at the Hanover Inn, the Alumni Council held its opening session in the Sanborn House library that evening. Prof. Donald H. Morrison, Dean of the Faculty, and President Dickey were the speakers at this first formal meeting.

The Council reconvened on Friday morning, at which time it heard a number of committee reports and also talks on athletics by William H. McCarter '19, on admissions by Albert I. Dickerson '30 and Robert K. Hage '35, and on placement by Donald W. Cameron '35. After luncheon at the DOC House, other committee reports were presented and the work of the Dartmouth Development Council was discussed by its chairman, H. R. Lane '07 of Boston. With the report of the nominating committee and the election of officers the formal work of the Council was completed.
