This was not one of the best lacrosse seasons in Dartmouth history, either. With the team getting off to a slow start because of the serious illness of Coach Dent, as noted, the boys continued only by fits and starts and ended with one of the poorest won-and-lost records in recent years, with three wins against five losses. The Green has become accustomed to finishing in the van in the Indian game in these parts, so this year was an unhappy comedown. The difficulty seemed to be largely inexperience, especially in the defense department, whence a group of stalwarts graduated last year with nobody this year to replace them.

At the close of the season, Edward L. (Ed) Lyon was elected captain for the 1953 season. During the past two seasons Lyon was the Green's top scoring mid-fielder, scoring 10 goals from this position and coming through with a number of assists. He succeeds Bob Fiertz '51 as the leader of the team.
