The sympathy of the entire class is extended to Jack Alden, whose wife Margaret Newcomb Alden passed away on June 7 in her home at 120 Nyack Avenue, Pelham, N. Y„ after a long illness. Jack went into the hospital the day after Margaret's funeral for a long delayed kidney operation, but a most successful one, and he was discharged early in July. He wishes to express his deep appreciation and thanks to all our classmates who wrote him after Margaret's death and while in the hospital.

On the In Memoriam pages of this MAGAZINE you'll find we have lost three more of our classmates. Herbie Osborne of Racine, Wis., Phil Randall of North Conway, N. H., and Nat Thayer in Richland, Wash. The number who have gone since our last reunion is too great men who are doing more than their share of this life's work and accomplishments and pay for it with their lives too early.

Harry Semmes, our Brig. General, has resigned as executive director of the National Security Training Commission. The Commission was created under the 1951 Selective Service Act to study plans and make recommendations for putting Universal Military Service and Training in operation. The first plan, submitted to Congress last winter, was returned for reconsideration and another is being prepared for the Congress that convenes in January. Then "Chip" was appointed as Vice Chairman of the National Security Committee in charge of its Washington office, as announced by United States Supreme Court Justice Owen J. Roberts. "The General is an attorney, a reserve officer and a veteran of both World Wars, as well as holder of the Distinguished Service Cross (awarded in each war), the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart."

Remember June 1953 is our Fortieth. Everyone should plan on this in case we should miss our Fiftieth.
