Having just returned from the Yale game, we've lots of news but much of it will have to be reserved for next month's writing. We're supposed to be brief in this issue.

We've already pinned the acorn cluster on Fred Porter for his topnotch job in this past season's Alumni Fund drive. Up until thispast week, Fred's successor was a big questionfor your correspondent, but I'm now happy toannounce that Stetson Whitcher has agreed totake over the Class Agent spot. Stet, whom youwill remember as our 10th reunion moneyman, has done an excellent job as an assistantagent these past years. He knows that he has areal challenge in the records made by theClass of '4O in previous years under the leadership of Scotty Rogers and, then, under FredPorter. However, we're certain that we haveanother frontrunner in the pride of the NewBedford, Mass., Whitcher family.

Treasurer Don Rainie has made a timely report on the festivities surrounding the illfated Harvard game. The annual pre-gameluncheon and boat ride were organized thisyear by Larry Cate. The day was fair but verygusty, and the Big Green team was somewhatthe same, judging from the news accounts ofthe game. The luncheon-cocktail warmup before the game took place at Red Herman'sspacious spa The Eliot Lounge. Renewing oldacquaintances were the Howie Stockwells,Gordon Wentworths, John F. O'Briens, Rainies, Gates and Ed Curtis, who journeyed downfrom Portland, Me. Gradually the crowd grewto include the following additional membersprior to the party's departure for the Gloucester Street Landing, enroute to the HarvardBoathouse: the Ted Millers, the Bill Hayes, the Capt. George Kimballs, and two couplesrecruited from '41 the Don Hanks and BobRainies. The boat ride was uneventful butcold. The return trip, made colder by thetemperature drop, plus the morale drop resulting from the Dartmouth defeat, was onlynlivened by Ed Curtis' sacrificing of his hatto the Charles River, duplicating the feat ofChal Carothers some years earlier. Other facesseen at the game were those of: Roy Merchant,Bill Squire, Rog Conant and Maurice Williamson. Both O'Brien and Wentworth werehoping that John Fitzgerald would arrive torepeat an earlier statement that Paul A. Deverwas to be the next President but Jack wasnot in evidence.

Rainie claims that class dues are coming in sporadically. For my part, though, I'm happy to see some news accompanying some of the checks received thus far. A note from JoeO'Hare reports that he is again living in Southern California with plenty of fog to accompany the sunshine. The Korean airlift is still taking up his time, with trips to Tokyo and return. He claims it's an easy way to make a living. With youngest daughter Susan just starting school, Joe has all three girls busy with the three R's now, and he figures he must be getting old. There is a possibility that the O'Hare family may be moving to New York soon, in which case Joe hopes to see many of the gang he left behind when he went West so long ago. About the only man he's run across recently of our classmates on the Coast has been Thurston Perry who is flying in the Korean airlift for Overseas National Airlines.

Manny Mansfield sends word of the recent addition of Sally Elizabeth on October 1- 6 lbs. 11 oz. of pulchritude in the Mansfield and Dartmouth tradition. Fred Fuld has confirmed the arrival date of Fred 111 as July 31 of this year.

Glimpsed at the Rutgers triumph (also by eagle-eyed Ramie, who says he may have missed others): Mel Wax, Tom Braden, JackSchleicher, John Bitmap, Kneeland Swenson and Jack Maynard. What has happened to Jack Moody this fall?

Gleaned from the address changes (which always make me curious for details): BillBroome, lately of Texas, is reported to be in industrial relations with some outfit in Tulsa, Okla. George Cutter, erstwhile Boston tycoon, has taken over as factory manager for Gillette Razor's, Montreal, Canada, plant. Comdr.Francis Gaskins, USN, is on duty in Seattle, Wash, at the Naval Training Station there. Comdr. George Tredick Jr. has apparently received another stripe in his job with the U.S. Naval Advisory Group, Navy FPO #3423, San Francisco.

Seems early to be saying it, but here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a most Happy New Year!
