Dear : To you, and to many others of the class of 1945, I owe an apology. My December column contains a section devoted to class dues. It was, in several places, badly phrased. It was not my intention to injure any member of the Class of 1945 in any way, and for this poorly worded effort, I apologize. I most certainly realize that many of you are financially unable to afford the added expense of class dues and ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Your interest, more than your money, is what we want. A token, a note, anything to show that you are still with us in spirit is plenty. If you can afford the MAGAZINE, do so. If you can't, keep in touch with us until you can. A postcard will do! Again my apologies.

A card received by Bob Allen and kindly forwarded to me reveals the following information about Don Evans (as Don says): "Just for the record, we're moving into a house we bought at 5005 Marvine Rd. in Drexel Hill, Pa., and have also just taken a baby girl (Janice Edna) for adoption; so we're really busy!"

As my Hanover correspondents are really waxing warm this month, I'd better take advantage of it. Here's the Dartmouth College Athletic Council's Director of Publicity, CliffJordan, speaking:

"Just a brief note to say that in December, when I went down to talk before the Nashoba Club, I had the pleasure of staying overnight with Stan Newton and family. Stan and his good wife entertained me royally. And I did want to pass along the news that Stan is the proud father of a baby girl, Pamela Johnston Newton, born last September 29. They also have a very lovely adopted daughter Patricia, aged two, and have a very nice home in Leominster (in Mass., and pronounced Lem-minster). Stan is doing very well in the dairy business, and his family is really great.

"Also ran into Andy Johnson this fall. Andy and his wife Lee and children are living in Philadelphia and managed to get up here this fall for the Syracuse game. Saw quite a few '45s during the football trips this fall and hope to see more up around Hanover this winter."

Thanks a lot, Cliff.

Things are looking up in Middletown, N. Y., and if you plan on corresponding with LouMills, be sure you prefhj his name with the title Mayor; for that's what he is in that town. A Republican, Lou was elected Mayor in the November elections by a majority of 1100 votes over the third term incumbent Democratic mayor. Incidentally, at age 28, Lou is the youngest mayor in the history of the city of Middletown, and the second youngest mayor in the State of New York. Wow! Any more precincts to report or is Lou the only '45 in the political field? Congratulations, Mayor Mills, and best of luck from '45.

The following is neither advertisement nor testimonial, but a hint can be found in its firstparagraph: "Reading the ALUMNI MAGAZINE just last night, I spotted my name listed as a suggested correspondent to feed the fires of your monthly literary furnace—that's a pretty screwed-up metaphor, but I'm delighted to make the following report: On October 6, my wife Helen was delivered of a 7 pound 12 ounce boy, whom we've named James M. 111. The little shaver is healthy as he can be; we are very proud parents (that's odd).

"Life as a county seat lawyer is a pleasant one. Things were plenty slow in the beginning, but after two. and one half years we now have some people coming in who aren't even related to us.

"Bob Pease spent an evening with us several weeks ago. He is with Republic Steel in Pittsburgh and apparently doing well.

"Helen and I were unable to get to Hanover for our reunion for two reasons: one, the baby was coming fast (you guys have got to plan now for 1955), two, I had a ruptured appendix the middle of May. Now, however, both parents are fine. We hope to make our tenth; we'll take all the kids with us."

All that under a very impressive letterhead from Attorney Jim Knowles in Clarksburg, W. Va. Thank you, sir!

Engaging situations find Phil Hildreth and Miss Gretchen Meredith Swanson of Sacramento, Calif., contemplating matrimony in the spring. Phil has his M.A. from the University of California.

Fairbanks, Alaska, was the site of the marriage of Capt. David Sawyer and Miss Mary Katherine Banks. Mary is from Saluda, S. C., and was associated with the F.8.1. You didn't have a chance, Dave; even in Alaska. PhilLewis, ist Lt. Medical Corps, U.S.A.F., and Miss Adele Susan Rosenbaum of Brookline, Mass., were wed last December. Adele was graduated from Boston University and Phil is attending surgeon at Lowry Field, Denver. And Herdman Porter fell off his bachelor button when he was plucked by Miss Mary Jane Harding of Haverford, Pa., a graduate of Shipley School.

No "wanted list" this month to give those who have already been indicated a chance to write me. Well!
