I can't think of a better way to start out this messy month of March column than to refer you all to several of our classmates who have no problems with slush and boots, rain and snow, or coughs and sneezes due to irregular and frequently inclement weather. For instance, there's Bob Jabara, roosted snugly and warmly on the sunny Atlantic island of Madeira where he manages the Funchal shop of Benjamin M. Jabara and Sons, N. Y. Bob sent a brochure describing the island and at this time of the year, particularly, it looks like paradise to me. He also sends greetings to all '45's and urges all Dartmouth men, '45's especially, to drop in on him at his shop when they stop there on their Mediterranean cruise. And Al Lott's company, Permatex Company, Inc., has moved its executive and sales offices to West Palm Beach, Fla. Al, Executive Vice President of said concern, says he and Jean have bought a house on Singer Island near Riviera Beach. Meanwhile, somewhere to the West, Bob Burke is "coaching" chemicals in Orange, Texas, for the polychemical division of DuPont. Over the dead body of the Orange Chamber of Commerce, Bob refers to his locale as "a typical Congo region," lots of rain and humidity.

Our political prodigy, Hank Dutcher of Rochester, N. Y., has pinned another tail on the Democratic donkey. Hank has been named Acting City Manager of Rochester, a post of great responsibility and importance. His selection reflects the "political revolution" that struck Rochester last November when for the first time in 24 years the Democrats took control of city hall. With the resignation of the Republican city manager, a vacancy was created which is being filled by Hank on a temporary basis. As secretary of the Monroe County Democratic Committee, he was instrumental in effecting this political victory. He is also vice-chairman of the City Planning Commission and in 1960 ran unsuccessfully for the New York Legislative seat from the 39th District. Hank is a lawyer (his wife, Cecile, is also) and is active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Red Cross, the Seneca Park Zoological Society and other veterans, service and fraternal organizations. A busy man! And while on the subject of politics, let me mention that George Barr was a candidate for Town Moderator of Walpole, Mass. For the uninitiated, this is the title of the presiding officer at a New England town-meeting, a most important post, obviously, and particularly if you've ever attended a town-meeting. I haven't heard the results of the Walpole town caucus so don't know whether he was elected. George is vice president of ANco Technical Writing Services of Boston, a subsidiary of the ANelex Corporation, the world's leading manufacturer of high speed data processing printers.

BOXING THE COMPASS: Andy Carstensen, according to the "Cleveland Plain Dealer," has joined the Union Commerce Building office of Paine, Webber, Jackson and Curtis, investment firm, as a registered representative. Andy has been sales manager of Flood Co. for the last few years and lives in Shaker Heights. From MajorJoe Byron comes the following "classified" release from the Air Force Academy: Joe is teaching geography with the academic rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Geography. FredFerbert whites that he now has his own companies, Cleveland Propane Corporation and R. H. Given Sales Corp. Also that any business that Andy, Barney and others can send his way will be handled with exquisite care. Bud Elder sends word from St. Louis that he is remarried to the former Elizabeth Caldwell Sibbernsen of Glenview, Ill., a happy juncture with Elizabeth's two children and Bud's one, Tim, twelve. He, Bud, is regional manager of the advertising sales office for "U.S. News and World Report." Lastly but not leastly is this very significant bit of news and edification from the offices of Paul Caravatt, executif exemplaire for Foote, Cone, and Belding, N. Y., who comes your way in behalf of Contac. If you haven't read the opening paragraph of this effort, do so, for Contac is designed to ease the pain of those who suffer from residency in the northern climes. In fact, the best way to appreciate the momentous impact of this product is to watch the ads. Do so and you will be persuaded. Be persuaded and you will buy. Buy and you will please Paul. Please Paul and he will be pleased with me. Please me and it will all be worth the effort. See you next month.
