After 35 years spent in designing or directing the designs of shore facilities for the Navy, George H. Stiles '13 has retired in Washington, D. C., at the age of 60. As deputy manager of the Fleet and Industrial Facilities Branch of the Navy's Bureau of Yards and Docks, Mr. Stiles was connected with one of the Navy's important functions in times of war and peace, the planning and building of wharves, and other water front structures; heavy duty weight-lifting equipment and industrial buildings required for the Navy s shore establishments. In the early 1920's he was the Bureau's representative at the site in charge of the design and construction of the Naval Research Laboratory at Anacostia, D. C. In 1928 he was made senior engineer and commissioned in the Civil Engineer Corps, U. S. Naval Reserve, as a lieutenant. During the war he served as a lieutenant commander, then captain. Among other duties, he was head of the Bureau's Hospital Division. Upon release from active duty, he was named to the position he held at the time of his retirement.
His wife, Grace Brown Stiles, is an As sistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. The Stiles have a mar ried daughter and two grandsons.
