A pleasant sidelight of Winter Carnival came up recently in a clipping that was sent on from Denver. Denver University won the Carnival Cup last year and, with perhaps the strongest ski squad in the West, was anxious to defend its laurels against the Easterners. Early this fall, however, it seemed they would not be able to make the trip because of a lack of travel funds. But the citizens of Denver came to the rescue by starting a collection for the team. Some of Denver's citizens had attended a Carnival or two themselves (a few years ago) and had a very special interest in seeing that the Denver team should have its chance.

Shortly before Carnival, Jack Carberry, a Denver Post sports writer, headed his column "Ski Donors Prove There is Still Sportsmanship." While describing the progress of the collection he said:

"Then on Wednesday one of the nicest things that possibly could happen happened. Norris Williamson ('26), president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the Great Divide—the Rocky Mountain Empire area—together with Everett Parker ('16) and Hart Gilchrist ('31), Dartmouth old grads, came into our office. They presented checks from their association and its members totaling $125. They had a little joke about it. We, inadvertently, had listed Hanover, scene of the carnival, as Hanover, Mass., instead of Hanover, N. H.

"'This,' said Mr. Parker, 'is to pay the fare of the D. U. team between the two Hanovers.'"

A RABBIT'S EYE VIEW OF CARNIVAL: Bugs Bunny, having made a sitzmark in front of Robinson Hall, stayed put to watch the Carnival crowds go by. "Wosogoonega" can be seen in the middle of campus.
