Far and away the most successful in winter sports was the swimming team, which ended the season with a highly gratifying record of 8 victories and 3 defeats in dual meet competition. The team has yet to participate in the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships as we write, but for all practical purposes the curtain has gone down on another campaign Under the skilled auspices of Coach Karl Michael. The three defeats came at the hands of (a) perennially powerful Yale, (b) Harvard in an extremely close Carnival meet, and (c) Springfield in an early season encounter. In between these sallies, the swimmers defeated Bowdoin, Boston University, McGill, Army, Princeton, Navy, Pennsylvania, and Columbia.

Dartmouth 46, Columbia 38. By way of refreshing our readers with the personnel of the current aggregation, we may briefly chronicle the final dual encounter, against the Light Blue of Columbia. The two leading Green sprinters bowed out by taking their specialties, with Bill McAndrew taking the 100 and Captain Gordie Kay the 50-yard dash. Seniors Moose Malitz and Tank Creamer also conducted their finale in style, with the former swimming on the winning goo-yard medley relay team and the latter coming in second in the 220yard freestyle. The Class of 1954 had a field day, with no less than eight sophomores figuring in the scoring. This situation augurs well for the future, with a solid nucleus for the next two years. At the beginning of the season, Coach Michael tempered optimism with reason and predicted that Dartmouth might win five and lose six, or maybe do a little better, with the breaks. It is a pleasure to report that they did a lot better than that.
