On Thursday evening, March 27, our HarryChase, Chancellor Emeritus of New York University, spoke at the dinner given in honor of his successor, Dr. Henry T. Heald. It was the first all-University meeting since Dr. Heald took office on Feb. 1. He defined faculty freedom and told the alumni gathering "a voicing of political views is both the right and the duty of the loyal citizen."

The New York Sun Telegram of March 6 reported $9.25 a share tor Dictaphone Corp. in 1951 compared with $8.39 the previous year. Sales of dictating machines, service, and accessories exceeded at millions, an all-time high. Congratulations, King, for increasing speed against the tax tide. A super salesman with a super product.

The Alumni Fund Office passes this along with the comment, "We might as well get some fun out of this campaign—We picked this up from another college—Try It." Write down your class (all four figures; multiply it by the number of gallons of rum Eleazar brought to the first Commencement (500); subtract the number of years John Dickey will complete as Dartmouth's President this fall (7); multiply by number of miles to Lyme (10); add your last year's Alumni Fund gift to the nearest dollar; add 70 (no reason); multiply by the number of times that Dartmouth Hall has burned (2). The first four digits will be the year in which you graduated and the last digits will be a suggested gift to the Alumni Fund this year.

The "Annual Dinner of the Five Classes" will be held at Schrafft's as usual on Friday, May 9, at 6.30 P.M. Unable to attend this dinner April 29, 1949, Matt Bullock wrote, "I needn't tell you how sorry I am to miss that occasion, because I think it is the finest kind of a reunion, when you can get together men from five classes who were in College together." One of the five classes currently observes a fiftieth anniversary each June. This year 1902 and so on. How about alerting these classes to participate in Hanover Holiday which occurs the four days following Commencement Sunday? Shall we give it a try with the possible end in view of a few days on the campus during "Hanover Holiday" each year in June? Read Herbert Hill's "Need a Change of Pace?" beginning on page 25 of the April issue. It's "a natural." Leave the political snarl, the strikes, the Korean tangle, and come back to New Hampshire and home for any part of the Hanover Holiday. Herb Hill's program? Read it-Remember the campus in June. Make plans with the other classes at Schrafft's May 9. Don't miss this; Bob Harding has a real program.

This was a Dartmouth group that Jim Donnelly loved. He did not miss any of these gatherings. There were two evenings when Jim and the writer were still back in the fall of 1901 on the athletic field discussing Walter MacCornack's successful methods, while a tired janitor waited till we reluctantly went home.

For our June campus reunion, plans are made as usual for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7-8. We have enjoyed the South Mass. location for several years and hope to be there again this year. The Boston group are already making reservations. In the first reply relative to our reunion headquarters this sentence: "We understand that you plan on having about 15 men and about 24 women for your reunion." We don't remember in our gatherings since 1900 any such disproportionate number of men to the total number attending—neither Mendel's law, nor the Taft-Hartley Act, recently kicked downstairs, offer any solution-a mixup between the robot and the row boat, no doubt. Rooms for occupancy June 6-7-8 must be reserved with an advance payment of $2.50 per person per night accompanying the reservation, addressed to Max Norton, Bursar, Box 7, Hanover. It will be a privilege to be present with 1902 at this Commencement.

Spring in Hanover is celebrated by bringing out the duckboards and in 1904 by the appearance of Squid's pithy knocks and boosts. We have already enjoyed two numbers and there will be several more. They could continue and be much enjoyed throughout the summer months. Let's hope they do.
