A COLLECTION of personal papers, letters and other material has been given to Baker Library by Erskine Caldwell, well known author of Xobacco Road, God'sLittle Acre, and many additional works.

The collection is contained in 29 manila envelopes, ten of which carry the stipulation by Mr. Caldwell that they are not to be opened or published until 15 years after his death; 19 can be opened immediately after his death. Included are letters from Caldwell's publisher,, Duell, Sloan and Pearce, and many personal letters, notes, and memoranda.

This is not the first Caldwell gift to Dartmouth. In the past he has presented Baker Library with 32 proofs, manuscripts and typescripts; 271 books, of which 83 are in foreign languages; 80 anthologies of Caldwell's short stories; and 29 different editions of his famous Tobacco Road. In addition there are 26 scrapbooks, a collection of photographs, and 64 magazines containing first-publication stories by Caldwell.
