On the Florida circuit. Minetta and SylMorey holed up in Winter Haven and a card said, "We're too tired out to budge." Dan Shea spent a week1 in Nassau in March, then a week with his sister Helen in Miami Beach. "Nicest red-head in all Florida," said warmhearted hand-cruncher Otto Kubin as he introduced his better half Helen. Otto said he enjoyed a nice visit from Lena and Fat Sheldon driving through—and a most cordial invitation was extended to us to spend a day "when the snooks and grumps are running."

A most enjoyable experience was a cocktail party given by Florence and John Thayer where we also thrilled over their excitement about new property and a new house they're building on the beach at Delray. They'll be back at reunion and delighted will all '18ers be to hear John at the piano again as he has been at past reunions. Kathryn and EverettYoung were at the Thayer party (they'd seen Mildred and Jay LeFevre who were at the Breakers at Palm Beach until March 15). All four will be back at reunion, including perhaps the robber who stole the pants and coat, but left the vest, of his new gabardine suit. Kathryn Young, with one of the prettiest tans at Delray Beach, is a well-known dog fancier and a strict judge at dog shows; now cultivating tropical plants at their new winter home in Delray. Ev looks fine; thrives on dry martinis and takes his horse radish straight as tears gather in the eyes of those near by and bets that all the 17 '18ers from Lawrenceville will be back at reunion. A most pleasant and much looked forward to Florida meeting was with Kathryn Woolworth, widow of Felix Woolworth, who has in her heart the same warm spot for Dartmouth College which Mr. Woolworth always had. How much they were both enjoyed at '18's '48 reunion.

I couldn't take in the last New York dinner, but Bob Colwell sent in this list of those who were lucky enough to be present: Steve Mahoney, George Stoddard, Ned Ross, Rudy Hesse, Gerry Geran, Dan Shea, Dick Holton, Fred Morse, Howard Park, Stan Jones, Bill Christgau, Tom Tarrant, Bob Knowles, Rog Howland, Marty Straus and Curt Glover.

Thanks to Reg Miner '21, we have a snapshot from the Boston papers of Gene Markey's attractive daughter Melinda playing in OnBorrowed Time in Boston.... If you want a good building contractor out there in California, get hold of our classmate LudlowFlower, 507 Avondale Av., Los Angeles, 49. ...Bill Christgau loaned us a wonderful letter he got from Bill Montgomery. Excerpts:

"You can bet your bottom dollar we'll be at the 35 th in June... hope you are correct about JakeCann getting to reunion... I wonder, Chris, if you can remember that deceptive cross or reverse play that really brought us together for the first time without benefit of formal introduction since early in that 1913 game. I had to practice on you for two weeks for that game. When I saw you for the first time, as I was sent around for interference, I thought I had never seen a more savage, impregnable looking critter in my life before, that was our first meeting at the Polo Grounds."

If this reunion is the greatest ever, not only will great credit justly go to Steve Mahoney but also to everlasting big-hearted Bill Christgau who's been writing his darn fool head off to bring classmates back. How could one person do so much for so many of us!

Bee and Al Gottschaldt are certainly hoping to make it from Coconut Grove, Miami . . . Too bad about Ethel and Stumpie Barr- we won't see them at reunion for Stumpie said, in Feb., "Ethel and I will be going to Seattle next June where our son John is to be married."... Long time back around the holidays, Hitty and Reed Montgomery enjoyed a visit in Dallas with their daughter and two grandchildren, and you can't keep Hitty and Reed away from reunion because, Monty says, "I told our executive secretary of the Brewers Assn. not to have our June Directors' Meeting that weekend." When in Dallas, Monty took in the Cotton Bowl game, the Rotary Club and said that when Ruth lived in Houston they used to enjoy seeing Dwight Edson. Reed was heard over the radio when interviewed on a program of the 125th anniversary of the Boston Beer Co. of which he is gen. mgr. and Vice Pres. Reed phoned Bob Fish .in Tucson and tried to look up Charlie Phillips at Tucson. Reed has done an outstanding job yet always has time for his class.... Lenah and Fat Sheldon drove their brother, who was convalescing, to Florida and were given Al Gottschaldt's and Pat Case's addresses, and we'll learn what other 'lBers they saw there....

Maybe John J. McMahon from the coast will be on to visit his old haunts at Mrs. Geary's eating club, who fed all the Sigma Chis at Hanover Had a nice letter from Imogene Kozminski, who said she had a nice letter from Sid Hayward, when Charlie passed away, and hinted that their son is being married in May to a school teacher, and seemed very happy.... From George Stoddard in Feb.,

"Just back from delightful weekend in Hanover, including Carnival, and a stopoff with daughter Debbie at Smith, and leave in the morning for a weekend with Clara and Ed Felt in Buffalo. Spent a lot of time in Hanover with Em and Carol Morse,Curt and Ruth Glover and had the pleasure of watching Johnny Glover break the College and Spaulding Pool record for the 150 yd. medley in the swimming meet with Navy. Also had several musical workouts at the Inn and at Em and Carol's hilltop estate near N. Thetford. Also saw Pert Streeter. Em and I found out that we had played together in the freshman Mandolin Club (Em and Geo. Arnold being the only two fluters in College), but after some liquid persuasion, Em got out his flute from amongst the other plumbing in his new home, and unlimbered, and Curt hammered the piano and we managed to scare 14 deer and 3 bobcats across the frozen Connecticut into Vt. Have seen a lot in Hanover of Rolf Syvertsen and AmosBlandin, and these guys are sure smart, living up there in that neighborhood. Do you know anyone who would like to buy my 146 acre estate up the Hudson with trout farm, pheasant runs, 11 room house, 3 car garage, barns, shops, farmers cottages, etc. etc. only 90 miles from Columbus circle, by the way of Teconic Highway if so, let me know, and I'll commence moving to Norwich, Vt."

Through the alertness of Hort Chandler and Chaunce Hood, a wonderful Bill Cunningham '19 column on "Departed Friends" fell into our hands, and says in part

"Al Lucier could have been another Jascha Heifetz, but took to law and politics instead, serving as Mayor of Nashua and member of the Governor's Council. Lucier, a sophomore, and his violin were already famous when I blundered in as a freshman. We had music in common. I became his accompanist." Coming back after the war, Bill was delighted to find A1 and his violin ready for more.

Happy indeed was Paul Miner (Ernie Earley and Syl Morey would have loved to have joined them) to have Cort Horr take lunch with him in N. Y. City in March. Cort was on for the Wholesale Stationers Convention and don't forget that Cort is General Sales Manager of the huge Associated Stationers' Supply Co., Chicago. Cort gets around and everybody enjoys seeing him, and he says, in part,

. . the Slabaughs better look to their laurels for they have a rival as one of the most affluent members of our group in northern Ohio. The runner-up is our old friend Homer Bennett and his charming wife, Elizabeth, that I had the pleasure of visiting in Medina, and they had just completed one of the most beautiful houses that you can imagine. For many years, Elizabeth's mother has lived high on the hill just outside of Medina, and now Homer and Elizabeth have built their new nest on one edge of her mother's property. Although he has one less swimming pool than our friends, the Slabaughs, the appointments, architecture and absolute good taste shown in this home are out of this world. Swede is in the lumber business, and they are now grandparents, and the youngest daughter plans to be married this spring. Both Elizabeth and Swede enjoyed a nice winter vacation in Bermuda."

Cort adds about talented daughter Judy, after many had taunted Cort and Marion on living oft the earnings of her professional modeling, "Her mother and I have decided that we would much prefer having a normal kid, to having a temperamental celebrity." Be sure now, Marion and Cort, to bring Judy back to reunion From Barbara and Harvey Hood, while skiing out in Aspen. Colo.,

"First thing I saw in the Denver newspaper was a headline about Tom Campbell (Tom is Mgr. of Improvements and Parks and Acting Mayor, and said he would intercede on behalf of the people to raise fares to a ride, eliminating tokens); saw Johnny Cunningham and Chuck Hilliker and they 11 be back at the 35th in June. Tom is very sorry to miss Hanover. He and Miriam will be representing Denver at some festival in Vienna, and will be there from early May until sometime in July. John has served on the Alumni Council now for two 2 yr. terms. Needless to say, you can count on Barbara and myself to" be at Hanover in June."

A week before '18 reunes on June 19, 20 and 21, the classes of '88, '93, '98, '03 and '28 are reuning with '18 will be '13, '17 and '19.... Bots Young, V.P. of Natl. Blvd. Bank, Chicago, and campus roomey of Ray Hurley, has not reported of late on his antelope hunting in Wyoming, but we believe he and Ray will be back to reunion.... Woody Woodruff, Joliet (III.) eye, ear, nose, throat specialist, ex-roomey of the successful Prov. R. I. real estate man, George Arnold, Robertson's Reminders' "Robbie" and Ray Smith, the CIA man, who probably knows as much or more about intelligence as anyone in the class, also whose roomey was Charlie Phillips, one of the strong men on the College gun team, Treas. of the Outing Club (now picking up WoodyWoodruff again), no longer professes to hold the short lead and fudge sundae championship of the SAE house

Phil Sanderson is Pres. of the North Church Fellowship Forum, Portsmouth, N. H. Bill has probably been back for several weeks from his annual trek to Key West, where in the past he took several photographs of Harry Truman. ... From John Cunningham, "I plan to take Kay to reunion, if she's still speaking to me. Our youngest daughter, who is married to an Ensign on a destroyer, is living in Coronado, Calif., and has a baby nearly a year old. Either Kay or I will go out there, and since I've never been to California, and Kay has, guess who is going?"... An amusing bit of byplay, among distinguished greats of some of N. Y. City's greatest high schools, follows in a paragraph by Bob Fish to Bill Christgau: "But one of the many places, where as usual, I failed to click, was in the full import of that DeWitt Clinton tag you hung on me. I know for your own safety you're putting in a retraction for Bill Montgomery and Jake NYU Cann, who are big enough to take even you apart. As for myself, I must let them do my fighting for me. What I missed was something else the real distinction that DeWitt Clinton had so justly bestowed upon you and which, even though not a Clinton man, I enthusiastically endorse. My sincere congratulations to you, because you're surely making a success of what you want and have to do."

Missed at this reunion, because he will be in Europe, is Paul Moyer, who works for the Providence Journal (who with Louie Huntoon was keeping us posted on Shorty Alden) as Economic Consultant and Financial Writer. Paul frequently addresses Civic groups on questions of the day and his outlook on world affairs would be like a conversation with some of the outstanding men of the N. Y. Times. ... 38 years ago the following gay, young sophomores played in the College orchestra: Violins: A. A. Lucier, S. L. Gordon, B. Stone. Viola —B. J. Rayner; Cello -C. F. Weston; Bass —E. M. Ross; Flute —G. C. Arnold Jr.,E. G. Morse. Alto Clarinet: R. S. Howard; Cornet —F. L. Rau. Also 38 years ago, class of 1918 elected Penn Carolan as Pres., Jimmy McMahon as Vice Pres., Stan Jones as Secretary, Hubie McDonough as Treasurer and JoePhilbin as Delegate to the College Club.

Come up paid-up in June.. You have, of course, sent in your contribution to the Alumni Fund. The list of ever-dependables grows each year. Have you still got that bill for your class dues? Be sure to send that in so you will have a clean slate in Hanover. On April 3 the gracious Bill Bemis's again were hosts at a lovely cocktail party and dinner at their distinguished Flamingo Hotel at Miami Beach, looking out on the setting sun on Biscayne Bay. Enjoying the evening were Dan Shea, the Earleys and Al and Bee Gottschaldt (has just bought out his partner in their thriving ad agency in Miami who love their Florida way of life. A1 graciously offered you readers a basketful of periods and other quotation marks to be used in these columns wherever you wish. Daughter Kay, on the honor roll at high school, felt doubly pleased after discovering a math exam of A1's at Hanover on which his grade was 19.

Nostalgic references overheard that evening: hope Elizabeth and Homer Bennett will be back at reunion... won't it be nice to see serpent-toothed Hal Doty again... 'twill be nice to see Sieg Judd and his attractive wife Dorothy (A1 Gottschaldt hummed aloud that swell Dartmouth song Sieg composed in College) ... so nice to see Patsy and Tom Shirley coming up from Key West... fine of GeorgeStoddard to keep active his enduring love for Dartmouth (yes, Pat and he will be at reunion, guitar and all)... won't it be nice to see class chorister Jay LeFevre and Ev Young ... what fun it would have been to see Minetta and Syl Morey (were at Winter Haven, Fla.).
