Assisting in many ways, unbeknown to the class, and giving of his ideas, time and facilities generously, Dave Garratt now Office Service Manager of the Western Electric Co., 195 Broadway, N. Y. acted a bit as Dick Holton's Colonel House during the past most successful Al. Fund campaign of 'lBs existence (Fat Rowell was speeching throughout Mass. on Al. Fund) Stew Teaze (home from China for tiffen) found his pen and checkbook conniving against him under the radio strains of Dartmouth's In Town Again—and blast it if the check for the Al. Fund didn't come out double his previous gifts.

The New England country Squire LewCousens sends us a maligning letter (fearing our cut in his Al. Fund contribution will be excessive) and adds "My daughter was married this spring to a very fine young man from Michigan State—a Tri Kap also. Have 6 pigs on the farm now if anyone wants any choice cuts."... .Doc McBride (Supt. Belen Public Schools, New Mexico) writes that in 1922 Allan Strout ran into him at Albuquerque but has seen no 'iBers since—may work toward some special field in education other than administration."

... .Corona-Corona steel Magnate FatHardy (reputed to have warned his salesmen of instant dismissal if caught with a customer during the steel shortage) was about N. Y. this summer inveigling StanJones to desert Packard and Parke Davis adv. accounts and come play ChetHulbert's wife and son are now living in Rye, N. Y Al Gottschaldt reports seeing Ted Hazen in Hanover, also Ned and Oma Ross vacationing at Lake Mascomagolfed with Stumpie Barr and Bob Drake (Bob and bro-in-law Dwight Sargent have a big farm in Vermont, near Union Village) Doc Angell vacationed at Lake Fairlee

Faculty member (Colorado School of Mines) Prof. Tom P. Campbell gives his frank opinion of the modern system of education in a May Colorado paper "During the next few weeks this befuddled nation will be treated to its annual deluge of commencement oratory. Even now, doubtless, the chosen speakers are taking their inspiring messages out of the mothballs, airing and dusting them, and practicing appropriate gestures before bathroom mirrors. Unfortunately it requires no particularly bilious eye to perceive that we are living in an age of regression, that our democracy is being degraded, that we have lost our sense of the dignity of the individual and of the unity of our national life and purpose in the leaderless confusion and petty bickerings of these critical days; and that .we cannot bring ourselves to believe the incontrovertible evidence of our senses any more than could the nobility of France really believe in the revolution even when they saw the smoke of the Bastille and the march of the mob on Versailles. By the same token, it is equally clear that there must be something fundamentally wrong with a system of public education which makes possible the emergence and persistence of such a sour situation." (sorry space will not permit printing the entire article) Also from Colorado comes the news that ChuckHilliker's pretty daughter Judith was elected head girl at High School of 3000 students. Johnnie Cunningham spring-vacationed at Guaymus, Mexico—"did plenty of nothing, fishing, elbow bending and history.". .. .We saw the Bob Fish's in their colorful modern apartment in N. Y. Mildred drove both ways through the great So. West to and from Arizona some 5000 miles, alone (with Connie, Joan and Bobbie) to stay a few weeks with Bob, who says "The family enjoy my arthritis even more than I do.". .. .Gymnast Bill Montgomery (key man in N. Y. Reciprocal Underwriters, commenting on his repaired plumbing said "You're in good shape because you didn't waste your college days in a gymnasium." ....

Jane and Reed Montgomery (Dave Garratt says Reed won't let his 6' i" 190 lbs. son play football until he has reached his growth) were week-end guests at Al's 225 acre Lyme farm; Ethel and Stumpie Barr were there (apologies Al, for deflating your 225 acres to 80 in last issue) .... postcard dated Oct. 3d and signed by hold-out bachelor Em Morse "finally gave up and am marrying Carol Poehler tomorrow noon in Chicago"... .hold-outer Tommie Groves married Olive Wenstrom Aug. 29th at Cape Cod. Tom as you may recall was instructor of English at Dartmouth, for many years in the President's office, and Director of News Service, and has degrees from Columbia, University of London, N. Y. U. and N. Y. School for Social Research (and N. Y. D. Club bar, said Dave Garratt).

Famous sports commentator of N. Y. Times, John Kieran, devotes his entire column of April 18th and July 25th to our own Jerry Geran, Sect. Ass. Professional Hockey Players of America, and the first native hockey player to win a regular job in the National Hockey League as center for the Montreal Wanderers in 1922. "Finished with the ice, Jerry went into business then wrote an article about hockey and club owners which didn't spare the whip." Apparently Jerry's idea is going over however—and luck to you, Jerry. Says Jerry "saw Steve Mahoney and Syl Morey (building himself a country home in Jersey) both have that worried look—marriage I guess-am doing well for a fellow born in this country." .... Our own Bob Ritter, also a graduate Wharton School of Finance, with 20 years of service Koch Brothers, Allentown, Pa. is a candidate for City Councilman on the Republican ticket EdDwyer is practicing law in Williamsport, Pa., and says "Dutch food here is very fattening—I am falling away to a ton—have gained 52 lbs. in a year—very expensive cause shirts and suits don't reach around. Never saw a graduation at Dartmouth-was in navy—l year at Harvard summer school and got my degree by mail." ChetHulbert, born in Korea, formerly living in Java, India, Switzerland and now in Rye, N. Y., with wife and son—says his father for 20 years was adviser to the Korean Emporer before Japan put on the pincers move years ago. He bought scores of native homes for one American dollar each and posted his name on them—then spent over 10 years getting these houses back into the hands of the rightful owners—thus saving them from the Japs squeeze play. .... "am fine—a boys—2 girls-2 cars—sailboat—and a pack of sass. Stoddard and Felt came this way years ago but must be too much for these old men now."

Thanks to dozens and dozens of personally hand written letters to '18ers by Dick Holton we are delightfully swamped with news. With Dick Col. Housing Dave Garratt (for 25th gift to Dartmouth) and Dave sameing for Dick, (on Al. Fund) '18 is blessed with a powerful backfield. Already in the last 30 days Dave has 2 cash gifts for the 25th—$50 and $1000 Don Robinson "Back in production with Wright Aero in Patterson (N.
