The officers and newly elected members of the executive committee of the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland for the 1953-54 term are as follows: Morris J. Hartman '29, president; Hal H. Newell '41, first vice president; D. Lee Bassett '40, second vice president; John L. Knutsen '40, treasurer; Eben H. Cockley '40, secretary; John A. Gidney '41, assistant treasurer; Robert W. Jeavons '48, assistant secretary; David L. Johnson '35 and Leonard (Red) Flynn '29, executive committee.
During the spring and early summer the Club held two highly successful functions. The Glee Club put on a fine performance in the spring in the Hotel Cleveland ballroom. Two hundred and fifty alumni and their wives attended the concert and dance which followed. Johnny Knutsen's committee added a novel touch to the evening by preparing decorations which portrayed Dartmouth scenes and events.
The anual Club picnic was again held at Jim Rutherford's estate outside Chagrin Falls in June. As usual, baseball proved to be the favorite sport with the "oldsters" (class of '41 and up) beating the "youngsters" ('41 and under). The fact that two oldsters served as umpires couldn't have accounted for the lopsided score.
The Club recently made a substantial contribution to its scholarship fund in Hanover and hopes to further augment this fund from the proceeds of an annual dance. The initial dance was a tea dance held September 19 at the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club.
