Back in Golfe Juan again and my timetable tells me it's time for another edition of the alumni notes to wend their way Stateside if they're to make the deadline for this issue. Being as divorced as I am from the USA has its advantages only in that there are new places to see. But communications, especially of a more personal nature, take a back seat and I feel a bit out of the swing. However, I ought to be back home by the time the next sitting comes around with the opportunity to vent forth with news, of a more current nature. Be that as it may here goes with the information I have that might be of interest to you.

Letter and News Dept.

The latest batch of new ensigns hot off the assembly line at OCS Newport include the names of quite a number of '52s, a partial list of which runs as follows: Gil Ellenberger,Vic Trautwein, Frank Heinemann, BobJahrling, and Ben Hadley, all serving as supply officers in this man's canoe club. WhityFier, Al Bond, and Bernie Lewis are wearing the single gold stripe as line officers.

Kayo Cox, spouse, and first born can be found residing in the immediate vicinity at Fort Devens while he does time for the Army. If things went well for Mendy Balkin he's now at Newport and likewise for Pete Lebovitz.

Those of you who showed up at the New York Port Authority Interview during our senior year will be interested to know that there was at least one '52 who made the grade with them after completing their rather extensive training program which introduced the trainee to every phase of the Authority's activities. He is Dave Springer who began duties early this past summer as junior professional assistant in the Operations Department.

The Matrimonial Picture

Back to the social columns again, in an attempt to catch up with the summer's toll on the now dwindling group of bachelors. Among those who have taken the first step down the aisle is Ernie Stephens, who became engaged to Elaine Luedtke of Wolf Point, Mont. Ernie's fiancee is a graduate of Valparaiso University, and he is working with the Geotechnical Corporation of Dallas, Texas. Another July engagement is that of Marilyn Mackie to Ted Frankenbach. Ted's future bride is a graduate of Middlebury College and hails from Ted's home town, Westfield, N. J. PFC Frankenbach was stationed at Fort Dix as of my latest information. Received an invitation postmarked Westport, Conn., not so long ago from the Webster Family of the same town. Seems Nancy and Dave Hawkins finally took the big step with nuptials coming up some time in the not-too-distant future. Dave is Ensign Hawkins and was headed for UDT Training at the Phib Base at Little Creek, Va. That is tough work, incidentally. Nancyattended Wellesley College.

As stated in the October column, I had to quit for lack of space on the subject of weddings. I'll pick up where I left off. June 13 was the big day for Al Dubuque and Velma Spazioso. She is a graduate of the Berkshire Business College and Al is with G.E. in Pittsfield, Mass. June at saw several ceremonies involving '52s. Gerry Zimmerman and Muriel Gilbert took the vows on that date. Gerry's wife is a graduate of Queens College and I believe is attending Johns Hopkins this fall. Gerry studied at N.Y.U. last year. They will make their home in Baltimore. In Springfield, Mass., Paul Sanderson took Nancy Linnell as his bride. Nancy is a Mount Holyoke grad, Class of '52, and may be remembered as one of the Holyoke V-Eights. Paul is a member of the faculty at Suffield Academy in Connecticut, where in addition to his teaching duties he coaches the varsity basketball team.

Moving back one day to June 20, three weddings of interest took place. Ed Rice and Pauline Tuttle became husband and wife in Acton, Mass. Mrs. Rice graduated from Colby Jr. Ed received his Masters at Thayer last spring and is presently employed at Pratt and Whitney in Hartford. Marjorie Stickle became the bride of Dwight Jacobsen on the same day in Johnson City, N. Y. Marjorie is a member of the Class of '54 at Keuka College and Jake is stationed at Sampson Air Force Base, Geneva, N. Y. Also that date was a highlight in the lives of Walt Lasher and Elizabeth Wright as they were married in New Providence, N. J. Walt's wife was graduated from West Chester (Pa.) State Teachers College. Walt writes that among those present was best man Hank Woerner. Other '52s present to insure that things went smoothly included Dan Van Dorn, Ed Smuckler, NickBradley, and Bob Lord. Walt says, furthermore, that Bermuda was great and that it was a bit of a let-down to return to Fort Sill and Army life.

Apparently Bob Lord got real inspired at 'he Lasher wedding because on July 3 he took Martha Webster as his bride in Boston. Martha is from Concord, Mass., and attended the Longy School of Music. Bob is at present studying for his Ph.D. in music at Trinity College and informs me that nowadays if you're only going for your Masters they consider you a piker and that in the eyes of the faculty the Ph.D.'s the thing. Anyhow it looks like a real musical family in the making. The N. Y. Times of July 12 devoted a few lines to the marriage of one Dick Watt to Sandra Fitch. Mrs. Watt attended Mount Holyoke College and after the wedding trip to Cape Cod they settled in Newport where Dick is stationed with the USN.

July 16 was the big day for Emerson White and Virginia Dye. Virginia is a graduate of Mount Vernon and Katy Gibbs School. Emerson graduated from Tuck last spring. StanSmiley was on hand as one of the ushers.

Out in Oakland, Calif., on July 21, PeteZischke took the vows with Midge Oliver. Midge attended the University of California and Pete is at present serving with the Army as a second lieutenant. Four days later in Glen Ridge, N. J., Ens. Charlie Fisher took Susan Rivoire as his lawful wedded. She graduated from Colby Jr. and after the honeymoon to Cape Cod they settled in Boston where Charlie is stationed with the Navy.

Back on July 18 Miriam Heck became the bride of Deke Dorey in Enterprise, Ala. Miriam is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Nursing. After a honeymoon in Florida Deke and his wife made their home in Enterprise.

On August 1 George Sadler married Alexandra Brady in Newport, R. I. Deke Emmons, back from Korea, was among the ushers. Mrs. Sadler graduated from Colby Jr. and the couple make their home in Nashua, N. H., where, if my memory serves me correctly, George is in the insurance business.

The weekend before, on July 25, Walt Simons married Mary Sullivan. Mary is a Wellesley College graduate and Walt is doing graduate work at NYU's School of Arts and Science.

On August 15 Anne Hawkins became the bride of Joe Stampfer in Bronxville, N. Y. Anne is a graduate o£ the National College of Education in Evanston, and Joe is working for his Doctorate, in chemistry I believe, at the University of New Mexico.

Missed on one engagement, that of JimMurray and Marilyn Breed. She is attending the University of New Hampshire, as is Jim. They were planning on an early fall wedding. No details on that one as yet.

That's it for this issue. Go easy on the turkey come Thanksgiving.
