It's with some reluctance that I sit down today to get out the column because it is one of those beautiful fall Saturdays when, by all rights, I should be outside. The weather portends good shooting days ahead not to mention football and if this doesn't get done now, I may not get to it again. This may be a little shorter than usual for the reasons just indicated, so I'll jump in with ...

WHAT'S NEW WITH '52: From Hanover itself comes word of visits by a number of the Class over the summer and early fall months. These include among others Art Frohner and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ellenberger, Lt. and Mrs. Stan Smiley, Dick Colson and spouse, Dick Hill and his wife, Marty Cunningham,Bob Kelly, Bill Thomas and his bride, and Jay Schochet. Unfortunately, I suspect that they found the campus in a state of upheaval because of the new steam main being laid across the center of the quad and a great deal of repair and building going on. If they inquired, they found that there were reasons beyond the ones that first came to mind, not the least of which concerned the housing of some 810 Freshmen.

Hop-scotching around for a few moments, I have a clipping here that says Wey Lundquist has been assigned to the legal department of the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington. (Some of these legal beagles really know how to plead their cases.) From Hahnemann Medical College comes word of still another '52 with an M.D. after his name. He is Ken Johnson and while at Hahnemann he was a member of Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity. I hear in Beantown that Van Stevens was appointed advertising and sales promotion supervisor at Raytheon in their Equipment and Marketing Department. I understand that he's doing quite a job in quite an outfit.

Back on the academic side of the ledger for a moment, the Portland, Me., Press-Herald had a squib on Frank Heinemann last spring. According to the article, Frank should be at the University of London on a Fulbright Scholarship by now. He is doing graduate work in economics having served his stint with the Navy and with a Master's from Tufts to his credit. Dave Drexler pens from Honolulu, T. H., that he and wife Judie aren't suffering too badly in the Islands. He is (or was when last I heard) serving aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Plantree and is concerning himself with aids to navigation throughout the Pacific. Dave has a Yale Law Degree and has had at least one leave in Tokyo with his wife. I stand corrected on information published previously concerning one Harry (The Wach) Wachen. He graduates from The Chicago Medical School this coming June. Incidentally, he would like to hear from Dave Abrahams and Jerry Zimmerman and can be reached at 3333 W. Washington Boulevard, postal zone 24, in the Windy City.

The Army Home Town News Center forwarded a few lines datelined Fort Sam Houston, you-know-where. Seems that this past summer, Dick Lathrop, Captain, U. S. A., recently was graduated from the military medical orientation course at the Army Medical Service School in that locale. Subjects stressed, among others, were those concerning medical service in combat. Dick has been assigned to Fort Lewis in Washington. He interned at Philadelphia General Hospital before entering the Army and received his M.D. from Penn. Medical School. His wife Elizabeth Ann was planning to join him in Washington after completion of his course at Fort Sam. Walt Grevatt and his wife are living in Sand Lake, N. Y., as of last August. Walt received his Master's at Oberlin and last June was awarded his Bachelor of Divinity degree from the University of Chicago. He was appointed minister of the Presbyterian Church of Sand Lake shortly thereafter. Dr. Em Spencer received his M.D. from Harvard last spring and is interning at the County Hospital at the University of California in San Francisco. In 1954 he did graduate work in the humanities at the University of Wisconsin and in 1955 he studied surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in London.

Our erstwhile Class Agent. George Hibben, now separated from the Navy and the Boston Navy Yard, holds forth in his final year at the Harvard "B" School. Understand that he spent his summer involved with some sort of physical endeavor in the Canadian Woods. Last, but not least, Bob Binswanger could be seen, if you looked closely at your T.V. set, in San Francisco last summer, as a member of Senator Duff's contingent. At any rate, Bins has been around recently.

The door is still open as far as your thoughts are concerned with the matter of reunion. Let us hear from you all on that score and whatever you do, plan to make itnext June!!

WHO'S NEW WITH '52: Only a couple o£ additions recorded as of this date, but the number is definitely growing. Van Mitchell Stevens III was born last August 26 to Bevand Van Stevens. The younger Van weighed in at 6 pounds 8 ounces. A month and a half earlier on the other side of the pond, Mrs.Dorn McGrath gave birth to Dorn Charles McGrath III in Madrid, Spain. Dorn number 2 is currently serving with the Navy and is doing civil engineering in that not altogether unpleasant clime. The date, incidentally, was July 12. I can use more of the above, so let's hear from you in this regard.

TROTHS AND BETROTHS: As usual, there are several items of interest under the above heading including one engagement. There are others, but weddings are scheduled for this fall, so I will save the write-ups until I get complete reports. From Frisco, courtesy of the Northern California and Nevada Alumni Association, I have clippings that announce the engagement of Lynn Johanson to Dick Brown. I won't bother to quote Yvonne Mero of the Chronicle, but suffice it to say that they met skiing in the high Sierras. Lynn is a graduate of the University of California and Dick, after a two year stint with the Marines, is associate with one of the larger brokerage firms in San Francisco.

As for weddings, there are more than just several so I'll take them as they come from the top of the stack. June 23 saw Frank Mate and Margaret Holt married in Chevy Chase, Md. Frank's bride is a graduate of Western Maryland College and recently has been teaching at the Junior High School there. Frank has an M.D. degree from George Washington and they plan to make their home in Buffalo, N. Y. On July 1, Howie Smith and Pat White were married in Swampscott, Mass. Among those assisting with the ushering duties was Cliff Fitzgerald while Ted Haskell performed the functions of Best Man. Pat is a graduate of Stephens College and after a trip to Bermuda they set up housekeeping in Marblehead.

Going back to June for a moment, Dick Pratt, and Joan Spicer exchanged vows in Brockton, Mass., late in that month. Chuck Keenan was Best Man and Bob Schuldt was among the ushers. Joan is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan and-has been teaching in Brockton. Dick has completed his tour with the Navy and is working with the Boston Insurance Company. They are living in Brockton.

Dick McDonough and Caroline Wilkins became man and wife on July 7 in Needham Heights, Mass., at an evening ceremony. Caroline is a Colby College graduate and has been teaching. Dick is employed with an affiliated company of International General Electric, Lamparis Electricas, Mexicanas, S. A. Monterrey, Mexico. Needless to say, they are now living in Monterrey.

On June 13 Pete McSpadden and Barbara Anne Dodds were married at the Community Church in Garden City, N. Y. Dick Watt attended as Best Man. Barbara was graduated from Smith with the class of 1953, and Pete, having served three years with Naval Air Intelligence, is now with the McCann Erickson Advertising Agency in New York.

Dick Colson and Hella Kirchner were married in Bremerhaven, Germany, earlier this year. As mentioned earlier, they were among the visitors in Hanover this summer. Mary Ann Ellinger and Drew Waitley were married July 14 in the Chapel of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Chicago. Drew is working with the Continental Illinois National Bank there, and they were planning to make their home in Glenview, at least temporarily. In Beverly Hills, August 3, Bill Thomas and Margaret Mathews exchanged vows at the Community Presbyterian Church. Bill's bride is from Danville, Ky., and is a graduate of Stanford University. Bill has four years as a jet pilot instructor with the Navy behind him and is currently in Hanover completing his pre-med education.

So ends it for this month. Doubt if any of you will, but if you do receive this issue of the D. A. M. on or before November 3, there'll be a reunion at the Yale Bowl on that date. You will have heard from Dick Watt in all probability. See you there or in Hanover next June.
