The Dartmouth Corinthian Yacht Club got off to a good start in its fall racing schedule at the Coast Guard Academy on October 3-4. After placing poorly in the Jack Wood Trophy Regatta on Saturday, the Green sailors came back strongly to win the Fall Raven Regatta on Sunday, beating such stalwarts as Coast Guard, Brown, Rhode Island and Harvard. The Dartmouth entry was skippered by Eric Bergstrom '55, with Dave Fitch '54, Dick Kurts '56 and Lee Smith '56 as the crew.
Two weeks later, in a three-way meet at Middlebury, the Dartmouth yachtsmen finished second to Middlebury but ahead of Bowdoin. Bill Bronk '55 skippered the Green entry in this race.
Since last spring many improvements have been made in the Club's facilities at Lake Mascoma. These include a lavatory, a new work bench and tool cabinet, an outdoor fireplace, and a new mooring system that permits the boats to ride better in their slips. The 14's are now on moorings.
Greatest boon to the Club's program this fall is the arrival of four new Tech Dinghies. Alumni support was a big factor in the Club's being able to expand its fleet in this way.
