Since the last report in this column, Coach Red Hoehn's squash team has played three matches, winning two and losing one to bring its season record to five wins against four defeats. The Big Green defeated Wesleyan 9 o on February 11, lost to West Point on February 14 by a 7-2 count and on the following day defeated the New Flaven Lawn Club 8-1.
The Wesleyan encounter was all Dartmouth as the Indians had little difficulty in winning all their matches. Ed Boyle, the number three man for the Big Green, was sidelined as the result of a twisted knee and all the rest of the squad moved up a notch with Bennett Rogers playing number nine for Dartmouth.
Against the West Point cadets, the Indians ran into a different brand of opposition. Bud Addis in the number two spot and Jack Buffington, playing number eight, were the only Dartmouth victors and both had to go to five games before winning their matches.
On the following day the Big Green met the New Haven Lawn Club in what might well have been the Foster Family Day. Dartmouth Captain Steve Foster played his brother Jim and finally managed to down him in five hotly contested games. Meanwhile Steve and Jim's father was playing Werner Graeve of Dartmouth, but he also went down to defeat as the Big Green swept eight of the nine matches. Only loser for the Indians was Bud Addis who dropped a close match to Gordie Still man of the New Haven club.
With Ed Boyle back in the lineup, the Big Green will be at full strength for their matches with Amherst and Williams before they journey to West Point for the Intercollegiates on March 6 and 7. Here again we have a case of steady improvement, and the Indian racquet wielders may well give a good account of themselves at the intercollegiate matches in March.
