Dartmouth's lacrosse team, directed by veteran Coach Tom Dent, had a rough time getting started, what with cancellation of the spring vacation trip and the inclement weather which made it impossible to hold any real scrimmage sessions until about one week before the first game. This slow start, a rather erratic midfield and a distinct lack of depth were certainly factors in Dartmouth's rather poor record.

The Indians opened at Cornell and lost in a close contest, 6-4. Then a strong Syracuse team outplayed Dartmouth, 11-4, while Williams edged past the Indians, 8-7, and Harvard administered a 13-1 thumping which Dartmouth is not likely to forget for some time. By late May, however, the Big Green started to click and in its best game of the season, defeated a strong Yale team, 10-8, in overtime. The game was not without cost, however, as defenseman Bill Morton suffered a fractured arm which put him out of action for the balance of the season, attack man Doc Rice went out with a knee injury, and Don Herriott, another veteran, sprained his ankle. With three top performers sidelined, the Big Green was not up to Princeton and lost by a 12-7 score after battling evenly in the first half. Colgate and Penn remain on the schedule and the Indians have a chance to win both of these contests.

After many years of having some of the best lacrosse teams in the East, it's probably time that some of the other teams have a chance to win, but Coach Tom Dent is already looking ahead to next year.
