Donald Brooks '17 was cited for his outstanding work as Class Treasurer at the annual alumni officers' dinner, May 9, as follows:
In the operations of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE'S class group subscription plan, the class treasurers are the indispensable men. For the past 26 years, a period much longer than the life of the group plan, Donald Brooks has served as Treasurer of the Class of 1917 and has earned, even among this group of indispensable officers, a preeminence for the zeal, effectiveness and cooperative spirit of his work. In 1946 he was elected President of the Dartmouth Class Treasurers Association.
In the collection of class dues, his record has consistently been one of the best among all the classes. This has been achieved by means of a personal rather than a routine approach that provides the best answer to the question of how dues collections can be improved. The 1917 class group subscription to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE has grown steadily to the point this year where 98 per cent of all graduates and non-graduates are included. Our prize winner's current record of 141 per cent of quota is the third highest among the 65 classes participating in the group plan. His work as Treasurer has given the class a sound financial status; and far beyond the duties of this position he has shouldered responsibility in class affairs in general, always rendering this service with a personal touch that adds warmth to efficiency.
To Donald Brooks, who has achieved this splendid record, goes our grateful appreciation and this award for the Class Treasurer of 1953.
