The Dartmouth track team is composed of valiant men, but the team has had a dismal year. A lone victory over Holy Cross in early May was the only bright spot of the spring season. Losses included a 135-18 trouncing at Harvard, a 103-51 defeat by Brown and an 82-72 close one to Springfield.
Dartmouth was able to manage only seven places against Harvard. This included two firsts: Chet Halka, sophomore from Wayne, N. J., leaped 6-feet 4-inches in the high jump; and Don Johnsen, sophomore from Wethersfield, Conn., achieved a mark of 21-feet 4-inches in the long jump.
The Springfield contest was a little more hopeful. Dartmouth hung in contention almost until the end. At least four times the lead changed as the events ticked off. Captain Harris Wagenseil, senior from Palos Verdes, Calif., had been out of competition in the pole vault Because of a leg injury, after a recordsetting indoor season. His absence proved the difference; Springfield swept the vault event.
Second baseman Gene Ryzewicz '68, Dartmouth's leading hitter this season witha .415 average, takes a full swing in the 9-8 win over Boston College.
