Enrollment Up
November 1954

THE official enrollment tally at Dartmouth this fall is 2,932 men, 76 more than last year and the largest enrollment since 1949-50 when 2,936 men were registered. The total is the fourth largest in the history of the College, being exceeded only by the 1949-50 figure just mentioned, by 2,961 in 1948-49 and by the record total of 3,001 in 1947-48.

In those earlier years undergraduate enrollment was swelled by the presence of men from seven or more extra classes, back after the war. This year's total of 2,661 men in the Classes of 1955 through 1958 is the largest four-class enrollment the College has ever had. Forty-three men from classes prior to 1955 and thirteen unclassifieds give an undergraduate total of 2,717 this year. Graduate enrollment is 215 men, most of whom are in the three associated schools. Total undergraduate and gradu- ate enrollment in Tuck School this fall is 155, in the Medical School 103, in Thayer School 37, and in the Tuck-Thayer course 18.

The figure for the freshman Class of 1958 has finally shaken down to 753, the second largest class to enter Dartmouth. The Class of 1955, which matriculated a record 760 men, still has 593 in College this fall; 1956, which started with 745, has 622; and 1957, which entered 728 strong, has 693 back as sophomores.
