The Class of '98 now boasts the unusual distinction of having two valedictorians. The first to appear with valedictory honor in the remarkable year of 1898 was Pete Adams. Now another has risen from the ever-diminishing numbers of our class, though announcement of his high ranking has been delayed on account of unavoidable circumstances. It is now possible to announce our new valedictorian - the fellow who says "Farewell" for all of u.s. It is Charlie Littlefield. Below is the proof of his indubitable right to this distinction, proof that came to us after our 55th reunion, in the form of a poem, Farewell to Hanover, and we are happy now to publish it, with the omission of two stanzas.
Long years have fled; the Dartmouth of our day Is to us now a happy memory And many classmates of the days of yore Are waiting us upon some blissful shore, Where partings nevermore their sorrows tell; — As we look back, we breath a fond farewell.
But still Ascutney towers above the Plain — Part of the college landscape's sweet refrain. How often, as we've seen it standing there, Our hearts have voiced for us a thankful prayer For inspirations that in beauty dwell, Though we are forced to look and say farewell.
We who were once of Dartmouth's classic fold Sadly admit that we are growing old, That life no longer holds such glorious charms, As when we sought the shelter of her arms The tower, the pine, the campus legends tell Of days to which we've said a long farewell.
Thank God for all the gladness of the years And for each happy memory that cheers, For all the friendships of our happy lot;
The Dartmouth Spirit by our spirits caught And that so long has held us in its spell - Faith gives us grace to bid a fond farewell.
And Hanover, that village in the hills, "Whose memory brings to us a thousand thrills- Home of our Dartmouth through her many years Whose very name its every part endears— With lingering looks that on thee love to dwell, We turn at last and bid a sad farewell.

Mention was made earlier this fall of Mrs. Dune and her son Laurence '27, now a member of New Hampshire's Supreme Court. Further information of this family comes that a daughter is the wife of Rev. Walter P. Brockway, a Congregational minister who had accepted some time ago an appointment as the "representative to locate in areas of this state where churches were having a struggle to survive." They chose the small town of Hebron in a sparsely settled district (not many miles as the crow flies from Hanover) where both husband and wife are devoted to their work and have been responsible for "out- standing results."
Your secretary has recently suffered several shocks of an unusual kind. He received a letter in response to items he had inserted in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Unusual. Then came another similar letter. More unusual. And, to crown this last, its writer complained that he had not received this year any request for a contribution to the Class Treasury. Most unusual, - in fact unheard of. The Secretary responded to both, sending, in accordance with his duty, a bill to the complainant and, in accordance with his pleasure, a note of thanks to both. Who says that good Americans (at least in Dartmouth '98) don't like to pay taxes? Such a bill as went to our classmate, mentioned above, will be in your hands, it is expected, before you read this class note. Have you already - ? but space is lacking for the rest of this line.
