Messages were read from Charlie Goodrich '06, Harold Rugg '09, Dick Pritchard '15, and Herb Darling '27, regretting their inability to attend. The meeting had been planned as an "allThayer-School" affair with no outside speaker or pre-arranged entertainment in order best to accomplish the main objective of giving members a chance to renew acquaintances and to learn about activities at the School. Several of the members, however, presented extemporaneous talks of a more entertaining nature than could have been provided by long-range planning. Highlights were "your is showing" expressions by Secretary Rudy Miller and Student President DanaLow and a dissertation on the Society's Constitution Committee by its chairman, VicSmith '20.

Frank Cudwortk spoke interestingly on an occasion which he had recently attended in Poughkeepsie opening a new plant of the International Business Machines Company where speakers emphasized the growing need for engineers and scientists in this country if we are to keep up with Russia in this important respect.

Reports of officers for the year were read and approved, the highlight being a report by retiring President Shaw Cole. Members of the Executive Committee, reporting on their spring meeting in Hanover, were enthusiastic about this opportunity to become acquainted with all aspects of the School at first hand.

Retiring Secretary Rudy Miller read a resolution expressing the deep appreciation of the Society for the loyal services of retiring Treasurer Phil Thompson throughout the 34 years during which he held this office. The resolution was unanimously adopted amid other individual expressions of the debt which the Society owes to Phil Thompson.

New officers of the Society, elected by letter ballot, were announced as follows: Herb Darling '27, President; Rick Davidson '41, Vice-President; Bob Barr '42, Secretary; Hugh McLaren '40, Treasurer; Byron Tomlinson '36, Member-at-Large of the Executive Committee.

Principal speakers of the evening —by prearrangement were Dana Low, President of the Student Chapter of the Society, and your correspondent.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee preceding the Annual Meeting, it was voted to publish the prize-winning student paper in the Dartmouth Society Prize Paper contest each year, beginning in 1955. An appropriation was voted to the Student Chapter in support of its activities for the current school year.

Don Phinney '34 has been traveling through South America for his firm, Morrison-Knudsen, preparing bids for several large construction projects. His itinerary has included Caracas, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Asuncion, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Lima and Panama - quite a tour.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Thayer School.
