THE months of February and March at Thayer School have been noteworthy for the extra-curricular activity of employment interviews. The number of company interviewers who have visited the campus and the number and terms of the offers made have substantiated the "shortage of engineers" statements which have appeared so frequently in the press. The unsolicited and gratuitous praise which visiting interviewers express to us of our Thayer and Tuck-Thayer students is a continuing source of satisfaction to us and a continuing verification of the standards which are made possible by the Dartmouth- Associated School system.

The annual dinner and meeting of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers was held at the Belmont Plaza Hotel in New York with an attendance of 54 members and guests. President Dickey was the speaker of the evening and his remarks on the relations between general education and professional education, with particular reference to the Dartmouth- Thayer School relationship, were enthusiastically received. Paul J. Halloran '20, president of the Society, was toastmaster and presided over the business meeting. Hanover representatives present were the writer, Donald L.Pyke, Assistant to the Dean and Assistant Professor of Applied Mechanics, and Chuck Sherman '52, president of the Student Chapter.

The tellers announced the election of the following officers of the Society: A. H. Ayers '07, president; N. L. Doe '13, vice-president; H. O. Dressel EE '48, member of the executive committee. Officers whose terms continue are P. L. Thompson '09, treasurer; R. N. Miller'20, secretary; R. H. Ellis '17 and F. A. Davidson Jr. '41, members of the executive committee. Frank E. Cudworth '02 was nominated to succeed himself for a four-year term on the Board of Overseers. The tellers also announced the adoption of the constitutional amendments submitted to the membership for letter ballot by the standing committee on the constitution.

Congratulations are in order for JohnFormica ME'50 whose engagement has been announced to Miss Barbara Lois Johnson of Hartford, Conn. John is an engineer with the U. S. Rubber Company in Naugatuck. An April wedding is planned.

A letter has been received from HowardEmerson D' 23 anticipating a visit to Hanover for the American Society for Engineering Education meeting in June and offering to assist the local committee in its host assignments. Howard is Professor and Head of Industrial Engineering at the University of Tennessee and has been asked to give a paper on "Applications of Statistical Mathematics to Industrial Engineering" at the June meeting.

A note from Allen Hazen '40 brings the word that he and his family are moving into a home of their own at 1800 Spring Valley Circle, Minneapolis 22, Minn.

In the post-New-Year pressure of preparing my notes for the February TS News, I omitted the vital statistics on Cutting Johnson who has joined our staff as research technician. Cutting was graduated from Dartmouth in 1933 with the A. B. degree, magna cum laude. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and received an A. M. degree in mathematics from Dartmouth in 1934.

A card of greeting was received recently from Bill Caryl '47 from Stubnerkogel Bergbahn Bad Gastein where Bill is learning German and French and perhaps indulging in a spot of skiing as well.

Another greeting card has been received from Haiti signed by two Thayer alumni who commented that Thayer men seem to meet in odd places. The signatures were those of Summer Sollitt CE'49 and Otto Cornides, an alumnus of our 1951 Mechanical Engineering summer session.

WHO ARE THEY? High hatted and in laconic poses these unknown men, discovered in the Thayer School archives, await rescue from oblivion. Information will be welcomed by Thayer School.
