March 1954

PRESIDENT DICKEY last month announced the appointment of J. Ross Gamble '33h as Special Assistant to the President. Since he joined the administrative staff of the College in 1950 Mr. Gamble has been associated with the Dartmouth Development Council and is now serving as executive secretary of the Bequest and Estate Planning Program. In his new capacity, he will continue to be concerned primarily with development activities, covering corporate as well as bequest and estate planning matters. He will, in addition, be available for more general administrative duties and will undertake these as special assignments from President Dickey.

Mr. Gamble, an honorary member of the Dartmouth class of 1933, is a law graduate of the National University in Washington, D.C., where he practiced corporation law as a partner in the firm of Leighton and Gamble before coming to Dartmouth. He still maintains a law office in Washington, and continues to serve as attorney and director of a number of corporations.

Mr. Gamble is a past president of the Federal Bar Association and now serves on the association's executive committee. He is qualified to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and has been admitted to the New Hampshire State Bar. After summering near Hanover for a number of years, Mr. Gamble, his wife and two children made Hanover their permanent residence in 1949. The following year he began to assist in the development activities of the College.
