The weekend of March 12-14 was one of the busiest of the winter for Coach Walter Prager's skiers. Three men were in Aspen, Colo., competing in the National Downhill and Slalom. Chiharu Igaya, the Japanese Olympic skier who is now a Dartmouth freshman, combined a first in the slalom and a fourth in the downhill for top combined honors and the Roch Trophy. Tom Corcoran of Dartmouth finished second in the slalom and fifth in the downhill for a combined second-place standing, and Bill Tibbits, Dartmouth cocaptain, took a third in the downhill to finish fifth in the combined ratings.

Tibbits and Corcoran were badly missed, however, by the Big Green ski team which on the same weekend was competing in the Eastern intercollegiate fourevent championship meet at Lyndonville, Vt. Despite a fine performance by Egil Stigum who won the downhill, took fourth in the jump and sixth in the slalom, the Big Green finished a poor fourth behind Middlebury, New Hampshire and St. Lawrence.

On the same Sunday, Dartmouth's 1953 ski captain Brooks Dodge, just back from competition with the F.I.S. team in Sweden, captured the U.S. Eastern Giant Slalom title at Stowe, Vt. Dodge was followed by Dave Vorse, a Dartmouth freshman, while the Big Green's assistant ski coach, Charley Furrer, came in fourth and Bob Gebhardt, another Dartmouth freshman, took sixth.

Dodge, incidentally, took tenth in the downhill and ninth in the slalom for a fifth-place combined rating at the F.I.S. meets in Sweden. He was the highest ranking non-European skier in the meet. Ralph Miller, the other Dartmouth man on the F.I.S. team, fell several times in the competition to finish 48th in the downhill, but turned in some fine performances in several other European meets.

Dartmouth's clean sweep of the Dart- mouth, Williams and Middlebury winter carnivals was impressive evidence that the Big Green ranks at the top of the collegiate ski world. Winter and the ski season are just about over, but from all appearances next winter will see just as good a team in Hanover.
